The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, has visited the facilities of Recyberica Ambiental, a company specialised in the management of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that has been established in the city for fourteen years. The company, located at Mario Vargas Llosa street, number 17, within the Casablanca Industrial Estate, employs 60 workers and operates continuously from Monday to Friday.
A plant that never stops: recycling WEEE 24 hours a day
The Recyberica Ambiental factory operates 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday, to process tonnes of electronic waste arriving from all over Spain. The aim is to extract reusable materials such as metals, plastics, and valuable components, preventing them from ending up in landfills or being treated illegally.
The general director of the company, Fermín Rodríguez, explained during the visit that the plant has been expanding its capacity and technology over the years. “We have been working for a more sustainable future for twenty years, and fourteen of those years we have been growing alongside Torrejón de Ardoz,” he stated.
Municipal support for the local business fabric
The mayor of Torrejón, who has personally taken on the responsibilities of Economic Development and Employment, highlighted the role of Recyberica Ambiental as an example of the circular economy. “It is a magnificent example of how innovation, respect for the environment, and job creation can go hand in hand,” affirmed Alejandro Navarro during the tour.
Navarro also emphasised that the company generates wealth and quality employment in the city and that the Town Hall supports such initiatives. “I wish you all the luck in the world,” added the mayor, in a warm and supportive tone.
60 jobs and a circular economy model
Recyberica Ambiental has established itself as one of the leading companies in Spain in WEEE management. Its activity not only reduces the environmental impact of electronic waste but also generates stable employment in Torrejón de Ardoz. According to company data, 60 people work at its facilities, many of whom are local residents.
The general director, Fermín Rodríguez, insisted on the company's commitment to sustainability: “Our commitment is to continue promoting a circular economy model that allows us to recover resources, reduce environmental impact, and generate quality employment.”
A growing sector: electronic waste as an opportunity
The recycling of electrical and electronic equipment is a booming sector, driven by European regulations and public awareness. In Spain, millions of tonnes of WEEE are generated each year, and companies like Recyberica Ambiental play a key role in their treatment.
For the residents of Torrejón de Ardoz, the presence of this plant represents a direct benefit: local employment, reduction of the ecological footprint, and an example of how industry can coexist with the environment. Additionally, the company collaborates with the Town Hall in selective collection and awareness campaigns.
The mayor concluded the visit by encouraging other companies to follow the example of Recyberica Ambiental and to invest in Torrejón de Ardoz as the base for their operations. “They demonstrate the enormous potential of our business fabric,” he concluded.
