The Community of Madrid will invest over €14 million in a new Mental Health Centre in Majadahonda, which will replace the current unit at Cerro del Aire and expand specialised care in the northwest of the region.
The future centre, to be built on Manuel de Falla Street next to the Valle de la Oliva Primary Care Centre, will feature more than 6,700 square metres spread across four floors. The project, promoted by the Ministry of Health, anticipates an investment exceeding €14 million and a construction period of 19 months from the tender announcement, which will be made in the coming months.
Three separate care areas
The new complex, under the Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro, will offer differentiated specialised care for children, adolescents, and adults. It will include a Day Hospital for Adolescents, a child and youth area, and an adult area, each with its own spaces and two outdoor patios. In total, it will have 58 consultation rooms, eight group therapy rooms, and three low-stimulation rooms, in addition to an administrative and educational area.
The Minister of Health, Fátima Matute, visited the site on Monday alongside the mayor of Majadahonda, Lola Moreno, and the managing director of Hospital Puerta de Hierro, Julio García Pondal. Matute highlighted that the centre will improve care capacity compared to the current unit at the Cerro del Aire Health Centre, which will be replaced. For her part, Moreno expressed gratitude for the investment and emphasised that Majadahonda is establishing itself as a reference in mental health.
A team of around fifty professionals
The centre will employ nearly 50 professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists, organised into two multidisciplinary teams. These specialists will work in coordination with public resources such as those for substance abuse, psychosocial rehabilitation, educational centres, and child protection and justice services.
Care will combine individual and group sessions, and the professionals will be fully integrated into the Psychiatry Service of Hospital Puerta de Hierro. For residents in the northwest of the Community of Madrid, this centre will provide closer and more specialised access to mental health services, reducing the need to travel to other hospitals in the region.
Construction will begin once the tender is awarded, and the centre is expected to be operational in approximately two years. The Majadahonda City Council has already transferred the land, located in an easily accessible and well-connected area.
