The Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz is taking advantage of the summer to carry out several works, including an underground passage that will connect Avenida Constitución with Cañada-Mancha Amarilla, with a budget of 3.65 million.
The Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz has launched a package of works and investments this summer to improve mobility and urban space. The mayor, Alejandro Navarro, has personally supervised the most significant projects, such as the new underground passage under the train tracks, which will link Avenida de la Constitución with Calle Cañada-Mancha Amarilla.
This infrastructure, budgeted at 3,650,000 euros, consists of a roadway that will run beneath the railway tracks, expanding the current pedestrian crossing and incorporating two-way traffic. The works began last November and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027. The funding comes from the Regional Investment Plan of the Community of Madrid (PIR) and the town hall itself.
According to municipal sources, Avenida de la Constitución and Calle Cañada are two of the main traffic arteries in the city, with heavy traffic. When the underground passage is operational, it will represent a significant improvement in the connection between the north and south of Torrejón de Ardoz, facilitating daily commutes for thousands of residents.
Simultaneously, the Town Hall is renewing the damaged paving in several streets in the urban centre. Taking advantage of the lower traffic density in summer, over 450 square metres of paving are being repaired. This action is part of the regular maintenance of municipal roads and aims to avoid inconveniences for drivers and pedestrians.
Another notable intervention is the construction of a new pavement that will connect the Soto Norte neighbourhood with the Arco Bridge over the A-2. The route will start from the urban development of Soto Norte on Avenida de la Constitución and end at the beginning of the bridge, where a new zebra crossing will be installed. This way, residents will be able to safely access the Casablanca Industrial Estate and the Oasiz Madrid Shopping Centre.
In the sports sector, waterproofing works are being carried out at the Florencia Football Fields, located in CD Londres. The works, which had been pending for some time, have been scheduled during the summer break of sports activities to minimise disruptions. The project, with a budget of over 650,000 euros, covers an area of 5,167.86 square metres. In addition to placing a new waterproofing membrane, the water collection gutters will be replaced with larger capacity ones, thus eliminating the leaks that affected the underground parking.
Finally, the beautification works on Ronda Norte, passing through the Fronteras neighbourhood and IES León Felipe, have been completed. A new mural simulating vegetation has been created, integrating into the environment and enhancing the area's aesthetics.
The mayor, Alejandro Navarro, has highlighted that “in summer we continue to work and invest in the city to improve the quality of life for residents. In some cases, we take advantage of the reduced number of people due to vacations to advance the works more quickly, and in others, we carry out short-duration works to minimise inconveniences.”
With these actions, the Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz aims to optimise the summer months to implement improvements that would otherwise cause greater disruptions during the school year or the peak economic activity season. Residents of the Soto Norte neighbourhood will be the first to notice the benefits of the new pavement and zebra crossing, while the underground passage promises to alleviate congestion at one of the local mobility black spots.
The works on the underground passage, expected to be ready by spring 2027, will mark a turning point in communication between both areas of the city. Meanwhile, the paving and beautification works will continue in the coming weeks, aiming to have the city ready for the return from holidays.
