The Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz has launched eleven Neighbourhood Clean Points spread across the city, with fixed hours and locations for residents to deposit special waste without having to travel to the municipal clean point.
Residents of Torrejón de Ardoz now have access to eleven Neighbourhood Clean Points, a network of mobile collection points that cover different areas of the city to facilitate the recycling of bulky, hazardous waste and other items that should not go in conventional bins. The initiative, promoted by the local council, aims to reduce the abandonment of items in public spaces and encourage a circular economy.
Hours and locations of the mobile clean points
Of the eleven points, ten operate from 11:00 to 19:00 hours on weekdays, while one, located in the parking lot next to the Miguel Hernández school (Castillo neighbourhood), is open on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 14:00 hours. The service will not be available on public holidays such as Christmas, Holy Week, Local and Patron Festivals, and on October 12. On December 24 and 31, the hours are reduced to 11:00 to 14:00 hours.
Additionally, the Clean Point in the Central Zone, which opens on Saturdays, is relocating to Plaza de la Habana, as reported by the Town Hall. For residents who prefer a fixed point, the Municipal Clean Point at Calle Verano, 16 (Las Monjas Industrial Estate) remains operational from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00 hours and Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00 hours; during summer (from June 1 to September 30), the hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 15:00 hours.
What waste can be deposited and requirements
The Neighbourhood Clean Points accept a wide variety of waste. Among the non-hazardous recyclables are furniture, mattresses, rubble (up to 50 kg or 3 bags of 20 litres), wood, electrical and electronic appliances. Hazardous waste such as mineral and vegetable oil, car batteries, batteries, X-rays, fluorescent lights, paint cans, aerosols, and mercury thermometers are also collected. Other items such as CDs, printer cartridges, toner, and all types of light bulbs are also accepted.
To use the service, residents must be registered in Torrejón de Ardoz and present a proof of identity document (DNI, NIE, registration certificate, or utility bill) to the operator. The Town Hall reminds that these points do not replace the home furniture collection service, which can be requested by calling 649 27 93 83 and collects wooden, foam, or fabric furniture. Metallic or plastic bulky items must be taken to the neighbourhood clean points.
A step towards urban sustainability
With this network of collection points, Torrejón de Ardoz aims to prevent special waste from ending up in bins or on the street, and to advance towards a circular economy that reduces environmental impact. The measure aligns with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, specifically responsible production and consumption. For residents, the advantage is clear: there is no longer a need to drive to the industrial estate to dispose of a light bulb or a small piece of furniture; it is enough to approach the nearest neighbourhood point during its assigned hours. A small gesture that, according to the local council, contributes to a cleaner and healthier city.
