The City Council of Las Rozas has completed the clearing campaign and activated the Municipal Emergency Action Plan for Forest Fires (PAMIF), which includes the use of Local Police drones for surveillance.

The municipality of Las Rozas is preparing for the high-risk period of forest fires, which extends until September 30. The Department of Environment and City Services has finished the clearing campaign, which began in May and concluded on June 15, although necessary follow-ups continue.

For these tasks, a team of 53 workers has been deployed with 47 manual brush cutters, 2 tractors, and 4 ride-on brush cutters. The operation has reduced herbaceous and shrub vegetation to a maximum height of 10 centimetres in a perimeter strip of 30 metres next to buildings and urban plots.

A plan with drones and aerial surveillance

The Department of Emergencies and Security, led by David Santos, has developed the PAMIF, which establishes the organisational and functional framework for high-risk situations. The plan includes the creation of strips 10 metres wide on each side of roads and pedestrian paths, according to INFOMA guidelines.

As a new feature, this year Local Police drones have been incorporated to enhance surveillance. Two automatic drones with programmed flights are located on the roof of the Local Police building, and another two units have been installed in police vehicles. Thirty officers have received specific training for their operation, focused on both safety and fire prevention.

Civil Protection and recommendations for residents

The Civil Protection Group, with its forest fire unit, will conduct surveillance with its off-road vehicles and fire pump in the natural areas of the municipality. The City Council reminds residents of the need to take extra precautions to minimise the risk of forest fires during the summer season.

“It is essential that we all collaborate to prevent fires. Prevention starts with each one of us,” municipal sources state.

Residents can consult the full plan on the municipal website and are encouraged to report any signs of smoke or fire to 112. With these measures, Las Rozas aims to ensure the safety of its natural and urban spaces during the months of highest risk.
