Mayor Judith Piquet has supervised the renovation works on the pavement and the widening of sidewalks in the section between the Aguadores roundabout and the Youth Square.
The Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, visited the ongoing works on Paseo del Val this Thursday, an intervention that has a budget of €445,000 and is part of the municipal plan 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods'. The works, which started a few weeks ago, focus on renewing the pavement and widening the sidewalks to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety.
The affected section runs from the Aguadores roundabout to the Youth Square, an area that experiences heavy traffic and whose pavement was significantly deteriorated. The action aims not only to renew the asphalt but also to create more space for pedestrians, which, according to the City Council, will help boost local commerce by creating a more attractive environment.
During the visit, Piquet was accompanied by the Councillor for Works, Antonio Saldaña. The mayor highlighted that this project is key to connecting the Val neighbourhood with the Historic Centre, a line of work that has already been applied to other roads such as Avenida de Guadalajara, Talamanca, Gran Canal, or Núñez de Guzmán.
The works have necessitated temporary changes in vehicle circulation in the area, although the City Council has not specified how long these restrictions will last. Drivers are advised to pay attention to the temporary signage and seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
This action coincides with other interventions in the same neighbourhood, such as the works to improve mobility and accessibility on Paseo de la Alameda and surrounding streets like Gonzalo de Berceo, Andrea Doria, and Almería. This latter project has an investment of €290,000, bringing the total investments in the area to over €700,000.
The widening of the sidewalks aims not only to facilitate pedestrian traffic but also to improve road safety, as Paseo del Val is a heavily trafficked road. Residents of the neighbourhood have shown their support for the works, although some have expressed concern about traffic disruptions during the duration of the works.
The 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods' plan includes actions in various parts of the city, aiming to renew infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for citizens. The works on Paseo del Val have an execution period of several months, although the City Council has not specified an exact completion date.
For residents and businesses in the area, the widening of the sidewalks will represent a significant change in daily life, as they will gain space for walking and for the terraces of hospitality establishments. It is anticipated that, once completed, Paseo del Val will become a more friendly and accessible axis.
The City Council has reminded that these works are in addition to other investments in the Val neighbourhood, such as the rehabilitation of the Youth Square and the improvement of public lighting. All of this aims to revitalize an area that connects the historic centre with the outskirts of the city.
