Alcalá de Henares invests 360,000 euros in renewing Gonzalo Torrente Ballester Street

The Alcalá de Henares City Council has begun the comprehensive improvement works on Gonzalo Torrente Ballester Street, with an investment of 360,000 euros as part of the Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods plan.

The works on Gonzalo Torrente Ballester Street in Alcalá de Henares have already started. The City Council, through the Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods plan, is allocating 360,000 euros to an initiative aimed at renewing the road surface, enhancing road safety and accessibility around the Hemingway school.

The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Urban Planning, Cristina Alcañiz, has stated that the aim is to renew the roadway, increase road safety and improve accessibility for pedestrians and drivers. “With this initiative, the City Council continues to advance its commitment to the conservation and modernization of the municipal road network,” she affirmed.

The works include repairing the most deteriorated points of the road surface and renewing the asphalt on a large part of the street. Once the asphalting is completed, road markings and parking spaces will be repainted, and new horizontal signs will be installed at the pedestrian crossings near the school to encourage drivers to reduce speed.

Additionally, the sidewalks will be widened at two points in front of the educational centre. This measure will improve visibility between pedestrians and drivers, shorten the distance to cross the street, and make the pedestrian crossings more accessible. Part of the vertical signage will also be renewed, and the drainage system will be adapted to ensure better water drainage.

For the local residents, these works will mean more comfortable and safer circulation, especially for families taking their children to Hemingway school. The works will take place over the coming weeks, with occasional traffic disruptions that will be signposted.

The Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods plan is a municipal initiative aimed at acting in various parts of the city to improve infrastructure and public spaces. This investment of 360,000 euros adds to other planned actions within the scheme.
