43 roads closed in Madrid and other provinces due to wildfires

The DGT reports 43 secondary roads affected this Monday, July 27, in four provinces. Madrid has thirteen closures, mainly in the west of the region.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has activated restrictions on 43 secondary roads in four provinces, including the Community of Madrid, due to wildfires that remain active on July 27, 2026. In the Madrid region, the closures particularly affect the western area, with thirteen roads closed to traffic in municipalities such as Navas del Rey, Villa del Prado, Robledo de Chavela, and San Martín de Valdeiglesias.

According to data released by Traffic, the flames have forced the total or partial closure of several regional and local roads. In Madrid, the affected roads include the M-501 and M-512 in Navas del Rey; the M-507 and M-540 in Villa del Prado; the M-510 in Valdemorillo; the M-531 between Colmenar del Arroyo and Robledo de Chavela; the M-533 in Zarzalejo; the M-537 and M-539 in Robledo de Chavela; the M-541 in Pelayos de la Presa; the M-521 from Fresnedillas de la Oliva to Robledo de Chavela; the M-855 in Navas del Rey; and the M-957 in San Martín de Valdeiglesias.

The firefighting operation continues to work in the area, and the DGT recommends avoiding travel through the western Sierra of Madrid, as well as the affected areas of Toledo, Ávila, and Castellón. Authorities urge drivers to check the status of the roads on official channels before getting behind the wheel, as the situation can change rapidly.

In the province of Toledo, the closures are concentrated in the Sierra de San Vicente region and the Escalona area. The closed roads include the CM-5001 in El Cornicabral; the CM-5002 and TO-1375 in El Real de San Vicente; the CM-5005, CM-543, and TO-1451 in Escalona; the CM-5006 and CM-5053 in La Iglesuela del Tiétar; the CM-5100 in San Román de los Montes; the TO-1364 and TO-1368 in Castillo de Bayuela; the TO-1385 in Almendral de la Cañada; and the TO-1560 in Almorox.

Meanwhile, Ávila has recorded eleven affected roads, most of them around Cebreros and Burgohondo. The closed roads are the AV-502, AV-503, AV-504, AV-512, and AV-562 in Cebreros; the AV-901 and AV-902 in Burgohondo; the AV-904 in Guisando; the AV-P-703 in Casillas; the AV-P-705 in Mijares; the CL-501 in Santa María del Tiétar; and the N-403 near Las Cruceras.

In Castellón, the wildfires have forced the closure of eight roads, including the CV-200 in Aín; the CV-203 in Caudiel; the CV-205 in Tales; the CV-215 in l'Alcúdia de Veo; the CV-219 in Eslida; the CV-223 in Nules; and the CV-2261 and CV-230 in the Vall d'Uixó.

The DGT maintains its recommendation not to travel in areas close to the wildfires and reminds that closures can affect both regional and provincial and national roads. Residents of the affected municipalities should plan alternative routes and stay alert to instructions from emergency services.

The wildfires, which began in recent days, have been fueled by high temperatures and wind, complicating firefighting efforts. In the Community of Madrid, the operation includes aerial and ground resources, and it is expected that weather conditions will improve in the coming hours, which could help contain the flames.

For those needing to travel through the western Sierra of Madrid, it is recommended to use alternative routes such as the A-5 or the M-40, although the DGT warns that traffic may be congested. The priority is to ensure the safety of drivers and facilitate access for firefighting teams.
