The Arganda del Rey City Council will offer an additional hundred places in the sociocultural workshops at the Senior Centre for the 2026-2027 academic year. The increase is made possible by the transfer of the Cruz Roja headquarters in the municipality.
The Arganda del Rey City Council has announced the expansion of the sociocultural workshops at the Arganda Senior Centre by a hundred places for the 2026-2027 academic year. The registration period will begin on 24 August and end on 3 September, and can be done in person at the Senior Centre or via email at recepcion@centrodemayores.es.
The increase in the offer has been made possible thanks to the signing of an agreement between the City Council and Cruz Roja Española, signed last Monday. The agreement establishes the free transfer, by the association, of the headquarters of the Cruz Roja Tajuña Regional Assembly in Arganda. This space will be used part-time to host some of the activities, which will help to alleviate the current facilities and meet the growing demand.
The mayor of Arganda, Alberto Escribano, highlighted after the signing: “Every day, we try to improve the services for our seniors and more and more are signing up for the wide range of workshops we offer. Thanks to Cruz Roja because, with this signing, they will be able to enjoy practically new facilities for the development of some of the activities offered.”
The event was also attended by the Councillor for Health, María Camacho; the president of the Cruz Roja Tajuña Regional Assembly, Asunción Bouzas; and several volunteers from the organization. Escribano thanked the volunteers for their solidarity work during the recent wildfires in Ávila, Madrid, and Toledo.
The transfer of the Cruz Roja headquarters, one of the 15 non-profit organizations with the longest history in the municipality, reinforces the Municipal Government's commitment to combating unwanted loneliness. The sociocultural workshops at the Senior Centre include activities such as crafts, computer classes, ballroom dancing, maintenance gymnastics, and memory workshops, among others. With this expansion, it is hoped to respond to the growing demand from the seniors of Arganda, who are increasingly signing up for these initiatives each year.
The City Council reminds that places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so it recommends that interested parties formalize their application as soon as possible during the designated period.
