This Tuesday, work has begun to install a heating and cooling system in the auditorium of the Senior Centre in Arganda. The investment amounts to 102,925.38 euros, the largest since the building was inaugurated in 2008.
The machines and ducts have already arrived at the Senior Centre in Arganda del Rey. On Tuesday, July 21, work began to air condition the more than 570 square meters of the auditorium, a space that until now depended on obsolete portable units to combat the cold and heat.
The first day of work focused on removing the old units and unloading the new air ducts. The project, co-financed by the Community of Madrid through the Regional Investment Programme (PIR), has a budget of 102,925.38 euros, the highest investment made in the centre since its inauguration in November 2008.
An auditorium for all year round
The auditorium is the heart of the centre's activities: most musical workshops, gentle sports sessions, and cultural events for the seniors of Arganda are held there. Until now, summer heat was unbearable and many activities were suspended or moved to smaller rooms with air conditioning.
With the new installation, the space will have a modern heating and cooling system that will allow for a pleasant temperature throughout the year. The seniors will be able to enjoy the auditorium even in the hottest months, something that has been impossible until now, as acknowledged by the mayor of Arganda.
“We are embarking on the most significant economic project at the Senior Centre, yet another example of our commitment to change things and care for our public facilities so they can be used even in the hottest months, something that has been impossible until now,” the mayor stated.
The PIR finances the work
This action is part of the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) 2022-2026 of the Community of Madrid, a plan that co-finances projects to improve municipal infrastructure. In this case, the Arganda City Council has prioritised the air conditioning of the centre after years of complaints from users about high summer temperatures.
The works are estimated to take several weeks, during which the auditorium will remain closed. The activities held there have been temporarily relocated to other rooms in the centre to avoid disrupting services for the seniors.
For the residents of Arganda, especially for the users of the centre, this investment represents a significant change in their daily lives. They will be able to participate in workshops and events without suffering from heat or cold, and the space will regain its full use throughout the year. Furthermore, as it is a municipal facility, the improvement directly impacts the quality of life for the elderly in the municipality.
The Senior Centre of Arganda, located on Libertad Street, serves hundreds of retirees and pensioners from the municipality. It offers everything from ballroom dancing to maintenance gymnastics, as well as lectures and social gatherings. The air conditioning of the auditorium has been a long-standing demand from users, who now see the City Council responding with a record investment.
The works will continue in the coming weeks with the installation of ducts and air conditioning units. The auditorium is expected to be operational again before the end of summer, just in time for the autumn programme.
