The municipality hosts a collection and shipping centre for tons of supplies for the victims of the earthquakes in Venezuela, coordinated with the Chamber of Venezuelan Entrepreneurs and Refugees Without Borders.
Arganda del Rey has activated a permanent humanitarian aid point to assist the victims of the earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on June 24. The initiative, driven by the City Council in collaboration with the Chamber of Venezuelan Entrepreneurs and Refugees Without Borders, has been operational since July 10.
The facilities, located in the former Vertresa warehouses on Camino a los Baños, serve as a collection and logistics centre. There, a team of volunteers carries out unloading, packaging, and preparation of shipments destined for the most affected areas of the Caribbean country.
The mayor, Alberto Escribano, visited the centre on July 18 and publicly thanked the dozens of people who have made its launch possible. "In the face of a tragedy of this nature, any help is immensely essential. We are committed to helping a population that is always grateful to Arganda and does not deserve all this suffering," he stated.
According to the latest reports, the two earthquakes have left more than 16,000 injured and a critical humanitarian situation in several regions of northern Venezuela. The products most needed at this time are medications, non-perishable food, clothing, and toys.
The collection point will remain open indefinitely, according to municipal sources, who encourage residents to contribute with donations or as volunteers. The Venezuelan community in Arganda already exceeds a thousand people, a group with strong ties to their country of origin.
