The Community of Madrid has provided 72 free legal consultations to those affected by the fires in Sierra Oeste, distributed between San Lorenzo de El Escorial and Navalcarnero.
The Community of Madrid has already attended to 72 free legal consultations from residents affected by the fires that ravaged Sierra Oeste last summer. The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, visited the Legal Orientation Service (SOJ) in San Lorenzo de El Escorial this Wednesday, where 20 of these consultations have been resolved; the other 52 have been processed at the judicial headquarters in Navalcarnero.
The most common questions among the victims revolve around applying for public aid, insurance coverage, assessing damage to homes and businesses, the consequences of business activity cessation, damage to infrastructure, and emergency situations arising from the fire.
The regional government has reinforced this extraordinary measure with 12 lawyers and has extended the hours of service. Interested parties can visit the SOJ of the Illustrious College of Lawyers of Madrid (ICAM) in Navalcarnero, at Ronda de San Juan 32-A, or in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, at Calle Las Pozas 145, from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00. There is also free telephone assistance at 900 909 224 (Navalcarnero) and 900 909 220 (San Lorenzo de El Escorial).
A tool to identify damaged properties
At the same time, the Community has made available to municipalities a technical report prepared by the College of Registrars of Spain that allows for quick identification of parcels and buildings within the affected perimeter. This tool, the result of an agreement between both institutions, integrates registry data with the cartography of the European Copernicus programme through the Emergency Registry Portal.
The fires affected nearly 27,000 hectares, 1,543 registered properties, and 2,475 buildings, according to the official analysis. The geographic viewer of the portal allows any citizen to check if their property is damaged and consult useful registry information.
As a support measure, the College of Registrars has established a three-month waiver of the simple notes necessary to prove ownership of the affected structures, a relief for those who need to start recovery procedures.
Residents of municipalities such as San Lorenzo de El Escorial or Navalcarnero can continue to request this legal assistance at no cost while the service remains active to resolve any lingering questions following the fires.
