The public healthcare centre in the Sierra Oeste of Madrid receives this international recognition for its excellent, innovative, and sustainable management after passing a comprehensive external evaluation.

El Escorial University Hospital, part of the public network of the Community of Madrid, has been awarded the EFQM 500+ quality label, an international distinction that validates its evolution towards excellent, innovative, and sustainable management. The recognition, granted after an external evaluation, highlights the work carried out in recent years in areas such as healthcare quality, patient safety, humanisation, innovation, and sustainability.

The hospital's managing director, Rosa Fernández Lobato, emphasised that this achievement is the result of the collective effort of all professionals, both in care and management areas. "Improvement must be continuous and is infinite if we want to reach true excellence for patients, people, and the community," said the doctor, who believes that the label is not a destination but the beginning of a new stage.

The EFQM model comprehensively analyses the functioning of organisations, evaluating aspects such as purpose, strategy, leadership, professional engagement, relationships with patients and other stakeholders, process transformation, and results measurement. The external evaluation has allowed for the identification of both consolidated strengths and improvement opportunities that will guide the upcoming cycles.

This recognition marks a milestone in the hospital's trajectory, which had already achieved level 400+ in 2018 and renewed it in 2023. In recent years, the centre has promoted improvement programmes related to healthcare quality, patient safety, and humanisation, incorporating tools such as Lean methodology and open, approachable leadership.

Among the challenges for the next three years, the hospital aims to consolidate the improvements achieved and strengthen teaching, innovation, and research. The attainment of the EFQM 500+ supports its commitment to safe, efficient, and person-centred care, in a privileged natural environment that reinforces its vision of a sustainable healthcare centre.

With this label, El Escorial University Hospital consolidates its growth towards a more structured organisation, prepared to face future challenges, while maintaining as its fundamental objective the provision of the best possible outcomes for patients and the population of the Sierra Oeste it serves.
