More than 500 people attended the Gala Dinner at the Municipal Auditorium, where Helena Murillo was proclaimed Queen of the 2026 Festivities, accompanied by the Honorary Ladies Nazaret Galindo and Noelia Garrido.

The town of Pozuelo de Calatrava has experienced two of the most significant days of its patron festivities in honour of the Virgen del Carmen. The Gala Dinner, held last Wednesday, brought together over five hundred locals at the Municipal Auditorium to witness the crowning of the new Queen of the 2026 Festivities, Helena Murillo, alongside the Honorary Ladies, Nazaret Galindo and Noelia Garrido. The event featured an emotional participation from the outgoing queen, Cyntia Medina, in a ceremony that, according to the mayor, David Triguero, "reflects the continuity of a tradition very dear to all the people of Pozuelo."

A tribute to the women of Pozuelo

The mayor of Pozuelo de Calatrava, David Triguero, emphasised during his speech that the representatives of the festivities "do not play merely a symbolic role, but represent all the women of Pozuelo and have the support of the entire municipality." Triguero praised the role of women in the town's history: "It is important to remember all that women have contributed to Pozuelo de Calatrava." He highlighted that each year new women with extraordinary backgrounds emerge who deserve recognition, demonstrating "the immense human and professional quality that exists in our municipality."

The mayor also valued the moment of growth the municipality is experiencing, especially in housing. "We are responding to a problem that affects a large part of the country, which is access to housing. In Pozuelo de Calatrava, we are allowing our young people, and also those who wish to continue living here, to stay rooted in their origins," he stated. Triguero recalled that the current legislature is marked by a significant transformation of the municipality through new infrastructures and the expansion of public services.

New facilities and services for the municipality

Among the highlighted works, the mayor announced that this year there will be a new sports pavilion, which will allow a municipality of less than 5,000 inhabitants to have two pavilions. An important reform of the Multi-Purpose Room is also underway, a fundamental space for associations, groups, and families. Additionally, the opening of the senior residence is imminent, which will have places contracted with the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.

Triguero also highlighted the consolidation of services such as the Astra programme, nutritional support, and municipal reconciliation policies with the Corresponsables Plan, the Morning Classroom, or the Summer School. "We will continue working from culture, education, and employment to offer more opportunities to our residents. But above all, we will continue to bet on coexistence," he emphasised.

Festive day and procession of the Virgen del Carmen

Thursday, a local holiday, began with the traditional Diana Floreada, in which the José Gracia Sánchez Musical Group toured the streets. Throughout the morning, the Subastao Championship was held, the collection of Captain 2026, a role that this year fell to Cándido Redrejo López, and the massive Floral Offering, which involved groups, associations, brotherhoods, and numerous locals.

In the evening, the Solemn Procession of Our Lady of Carmen toured the main streets of the municipality, accompanied by authorities, the Queen and the Honorary Ladies, the Brotherhood, the Musical Group, and hundreds of faithful. After the procession, a fireworks display provided a grand finale before the festivities continued with the Popular Fair enlivened by the Orquesta Tronos and another session of Pocillo Live. The mayor praised and thanked the "extraordinary work carried out by the Brotherhood of the Virgen del Carmen with its board at the forefront."

The festivities of Pozuelo de Calatrava, which combine tradition, coexistence, and participation, have once again demonstrated the strong connection of the locals with their roots and their patroness. The election of Helena Murillo as Queen of the 2026 Festivities and the unanimous support of the people promise a year of celebrations and local pride.
