The Civil Guard's Canine Unit has joined the search operation for Astrid, an 84-year-old woman missing in El Pozuelo (Huelva) since July 4. The search planned for this Saturday has been postponed to avoid interfering with the dogs' work.
The specialised dogs of the Civil Guard have begun to scour the area of El Pozuelo, in Zalamea la Real, to locate Astrid, an 84-year-old woman who has not been seen since July 4. The canine unit has been added to the operation that was launched after neighbours reported her absence, as she has no known relatives in Spain.
The Saturday search is suspended to avoid hindering the dogs
The Zalamea la Real Town Hall has announced via its social media that the mass search day scheduled for July 18 has been temporarily postponed. The decision, made on the recommendation of the security forces, aims to “optimise available resources and ensure maximum effectiveness in the search efforts.”
The local government explains that it is necessary to wait for the conclusions and results of the work carried out by the specialised dogs before organising new searches. Once the Canine Unit's intervention is complete, it will be communicated whether it is necessary to resume citizen searches.
Active operation with Civil Guard and volunteers
The Civil Guard maintains an active search operation in the area of El Pozuelo, where the octogenarian resides. So far, several searches have been conducted, and the agents have combed the area without success. No trace of the neighbour has been found, which keeps the community on edge.
The Town Hall has deeply thanked “the willingness, collaboration, and solidarity shown by all the volunteers, groups, and entities involved.” Additionally, it urges citizens to stay alert to official channels for any updates on the case.
Astrid disappeared on July 4, and since then, the search has intensified. The addition of the canine unit represents an important reinforcement, as these dogs are trained to detect scents in challenging terrains like those in this rural area of Huelva.
At the moment, there are no updates on the whereabouts of the elderly woman. The Civil Guard does not rule out any hypothesis and continues to work to find her. Meanwhile, the residents of El Pozuelo and Zalamea la Real remain on alert, hoping that the canine unit can provide some clues.
