Madrid invests €15.2 million in 132 AI projects to modernise SMEs

The Community of Madrid has allocated €15.2 million over two years to 132 artificial intelligence and advanced technology projects to modernise small and medium enterprises in the region.

The Department of Digitalisation has channelled €15.2 million in the last two years to boost 132 artificial intelligence and advanced technology projects in Madrid SMEs. This investment is complemented by an additional allocation of €7 million aimed at digital training for citizens, sports entities, and vulnerable groups.

Commitment to AI and blockchain

Of the 132 funded projects, 85 correspond to artificial intelligence use cases, 20 to blockchain-based applications, and 27 to innovation initiatives aimed at accelerating business growth. The grants cover up to 60% of the investment made by startups and established companies, facilitating the adoption of digital tools that enhance productivity.

A notable example is the Madrid-based technology consultancy OpenSistemas, which has developed an AI solution to optimise logistics management in industrial companies. The system analyses moving images, generates real-time information, and reduces human errors by 40%, saving up to €700,000 annually in operational costs.

Digital training for all

With the additional €7 million, the regional government has promoted 156 digital training projects in sports groups, providing over 40,000 courses through Madrid Digital Classroom. In total, the platform has offered 150,000 classes to athletes, coaches, and club managers.

Furthermore, €5.1 million has been allocated to 58 third sector entities for technological training programmes aimed at vulnerable groups, improving their job insertion opportunities and social participation.
