The Digitalisation Minister, Miguel López-Valverde, has met with the Vice President of Samsung Electronics Iberia, Guillermo Damián Díaz-Plaja, in Alcobendas to continue the alliance initiated in 2024. The aim is to identify use cases of artificial intelligence in regional administration.
The Community of Madrid and Samsung Electronics Iberia have taken a new step in their collaboration to modernise regional administration through artificial intelligence. The Digitalisation Minister, Miguel López-Valverde, met this Thursday with the Vice President for Spain and Portugal of the multinational, Guillermo Damián Díaz-Plaja, at the company's headquarters in Alcobendas.
The meeting served to identify specific cases where AI can be applied in public management, such as automatic transcription of conversations, simultaneous translation, or assistance to healthcare and teaching professionals. The alliance began in 2024 following the institutional trip of President Isabel Díaz Ayuso to Seoul (South Korea) and was strengthened in April with a visit to Samsung's new technology showroom in Alcobendas, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Asian company's arrival in the region.
Collaboration in Education and Health
López-Valverde highlighted Samsung's contribution in areas such as public education in Madrid, where it is integrating cutting-edge technology to facilitate teaching and student learning. In the health sector, the company has provided the Community of Madrid with 15,000 latest-generation mobile phones and laptops that incorporate advanced digital signatures, enabling faster health inspections and administrative procedures on the move.
During the meeting, the minister also learned about Samsung's cybersecurity solutions and IT device management, with potential applications in various services of the regional administration. The idea is that these tools can help protect citizens' data and improve the efficiency of internal processes.
A Step Further in Regional Digitalisation
The alliance between the Community of Madrid and Samsung is part of the regional government's strategy to digitise essential services and develop technological talent. For the residents of the region, this will translate into a more agile and accessible administration, with faster procedures and more personalised attention thanks to AI. Although there are no specific timelines yet for the implementation of the new tools, the Digitalisation Ministry assures that joint work will accelerate the modernisation of public management.
The meeting in Alcobendas not only strengthens institutional ties but also consolidates the Community of Madrid as a hub for major tech companies. Samsung, which has been in the region for two decades, has committed to continue innovating from its facilities in the metropolitan north, generating quality employment and contributing to the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
