The State Meteorological Agency forecasts a maximum of 36 degrees in Madrid this Saturday, July 18, with practically clear skies and zero probability of rain.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its forecast for the Community of Madrid for Saturday, July 18, and the outlook is clear: sun and intense heat. The maximum temperature will reach 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be 20 degrees, according to official data.

The probability of precipitation is nil, both during the day and at night, so those with outdoor plans can be at ease. Cloud cover will be scarce, with a 17% coverage during the day and 22% at night, ensuring a mostly clear sky.

However, those going outside should protect themselves well: the ultraviolet (UV) radiation index will reach level 11, considered extreme. Experts recommend avoiding direct sun exposure between 12 and 4 PM, using high sun protection cream, and wearing sunglasses and a hat.

Wind and thermal sensation

The wind will blow with some intensity. Maximum gusts are expected to reach up to 39 kilometres per hour during the day, and 35 km/h at night. This will help slightly alleviate the muggy feeling, although the heat will remain the main feature.

For residents of the capital and the municipalities of the metropolitan area, the day will be typically summery: blue sky, relentless sun, and not a rain cloud in sight. Municipal swimming pools and shaded parks will be the most sought-after refuges.

“It’s an ideal day for outdoor activities, but with caution due to the heat and UV rays,” sources from Aemet state.

A hot Saturday across the region

In the rest of the Community of Madrid, temperatures will be similar. In towns like Alcalá de Henares or Aranjuez, thermometers will also hover around 35-36 degrees, while in the Sierra de Guadarrama, such as in Cercedilla or Navacerrada, the maximums will be slightly milder, around 28-30 degrees, ideal for a mountain getaway.

Those planning to visit the capital this weekend, especially tourists, should know that the central hours of the day will be the toughest. Aemet reminds that summer in Madrid is dry and warm, and that maximum temperatures usually occur between July and August, with peaks that can approach 40 degrees in the southern part of the city.

Recommendations for the heat

In light of this forecast, health authorities recommend staying hydrated constantly, avoiding drinks with alcohol or caffeine, and not leaving elderly people or children in parked vehicles. It is also advisable to ventilate the house at night and close blinds during the day to maintain coolness.

For those who cannot escape the asphalt, a good option is to seek green areas like Retiro, Casa de Campo, or Parque del Oeste, where the shade of the trees offers a respite. The public swimming pools in the capital, such as those at the Municipal Sports Centre of Elipa or those in Moratalaz, open their doors for anyone wanting to take a dip.

In short, Saturday will be a day of full Madrid summer: heat, sun, and zero rain. A good time to enjoy the city, but with caution and sun protection.
