Madrid City Council has announced a special mobility plan with traffic cuts in Cibeles and its surroundings for the celebration of the Spanish team, which returns this Monday as two-time world champions.
The Cibeles square is preparing to host over 60,000 fans who will welcome the Spanish football team after they conquered their second World Cup in New York. Madrid City Council has designed a security and mobility plan that will affect traffic in the city centre from early afternoon.
Traffic cuts in the Prado-Recoletos axis and adjacent streets
The cuts will begin progressively from 18:00 hours and will remain in place until 23:00. Cibeles square, Recoletos promenade, and the Prado promenade between Neptuno and Cibeles will be closed, affecting the roundabout of Emperor Charles V.
The Alcalá street will also be affected between Cibeles and Independence square, and between this and Cedaceros. In Gran Vía, the cuts will affect the stretch between Alcalá and Hortaleza, impacting Spain square, Princesa, and Ventura Rodríguez. The City Council warns that the cuts may be extended or modified during the day.
Metro reinforcement and closure of Banco de España
To facilitate the movement of attendees, a reinforcement of Metro lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 has been planned until the end of service. However, the Banco de España station will remain closed for safety during the celebration.
EMT bus lines will experience modifications to their routes due to the cuts. The City Council recommends checking the EMT Madrid incident website for specific detours. Additionally, more than a dozen night buses have been arranged to meet demand.
Bicimad and taxis also affected
The Bicimad service will lose several bases in the area: those located in Cibeles, Recoletos, Colón, Marqués de la Ensenada, Margaret Thatcher square, Castellana with Hermosilla, and Banco de España. Specifically, bases 86, 94, 106A, 106B, 10, 93, 104, and 20A will be out of service.
Taxi stops on Prado promenade, 1; Loyalty square, 2; Barquillo, 1; Marqués de Casa Riera, 2; and Clavel, 2 will also be affected by the cuts.
The municipal recommendation is clear: use public transport to access the celebration. Madrid fans have an appointment this Monday at 18:00 in Cibeles to celebrate the world title. Those arriving by car should look for parking outside the restricted perimeter and anticipate delays.
