The Celta forward, world champion with Spain, explained on Instagram that the music of Violadores del Verso helped him in his darkest moments.
The celebration of the football World Cup in Cibeles left memorable images, but one of the most striking was the entrance of forward Borja Iglesias to the rhythm of Cantando, by Violadores del Verso. Two days later, the Galician player revealed the reason for that choice: a deep emotional bond with the music of the Zaragoza group and, in particular, with its leader Kase.O.
“You helped me with your music in the darkest moments of my life. I sang alone in silence, in my room, and dreamed of being like you, of moving people like you and transcending like you,” Iglesias wrote on his Instagram account. The message, directed to rapper Javier Ibarra Ramos, artistically known as Kase.O, has garnered thousands of reactions in just a few hours.
The player, who was crowned world champion last Sunday with the Spanish national team, wanted to publicly thank the influence that the music of Violadores del Verso has had on his life. “Thank you for being a role model for me, for helping me build my personality, for helping me be myself without fear of what others think or say and to fight for a better world with my words,” he added in the post.
Iglesias, known for his social activism and for not hesitating to take a stand on issues such as homophobia, racism, or harassment, also included direct references to the group's songs in his message. “You taught me that no girl is owned and that the more love you give, the better you feel,” he wrote, quoting the song Ninguna Chavala Tiene Dueño. And he closed with a quote of his own: “Even if I think I have no strength left, my rebirth is still to come to fight again. Because this doesn't stop, my brother. I love you.”
Iglesias' dedication came after Kase.O himself dedicated a post on social media to him. “Today it is he who inspires me and many others. He reminds us that we must not stay silent in the face of injustices and is a great example for children,” wrote the rapper, thanking the footballer for choosing his song for such a special moment.
The relationship between Borja Iglesias and Kase.O is not new. When the forward signed for Real Zaragoza in 2017, one of the first things he asked the club was to meet the rapper, whom he has considered one of his great role models since his teenage years. That meeting marked the beginning of a friendship that now, years later, has had its most public moment at the World Cup celebration.
The choice of Cantando was not coincidental. The song, one of the most emblematic of Violadores del Verso, speaks of the power of art to overcome life's difficulties. Iglesias, who in 2023 renounced playing with the Spanish national team as a gesture of solidarity with Jenni Hermoso after the Rubiales case, has found in music a refuge and a source of inspiration to maintain his social commitment.
