The regional government will launch a psychological support service next week for professionals and users of the 14 residences evacuated due to the Sierra Oeste fires. The first to implement it will be the Amavir Cenicientos residence.
The Community of Madrid will activate a psychological support service next week aimed at the professionals and users of the 14 elderly residences that were evacuated during the Sierra Oeste fires. The Minister of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, announced the initiative during a visit to the Amavir Cenicientos and Municipal Real de Rozas residences in Rozas de Puerto Real.
The programme will be developed in collaboration with the Official College of Psychology of Madrid and will include group sessions to prevent stress, as explained by Dávila. In the case of residents, especially those with cognitive impairment, dynamics will be prioritised to reinforce their sense of security and aid their orientation.
The Cenicientos residence will be the first to incorporate this resource, which will have psychologists specialised in elderly care and crisis intervention. When necessary, participants may be referred to health services for specialised assistance.
The fires forced the evacuation of a total of 82 residents from Amavir Cenicientos, of whom 71 were transferred to nine other centres in the region and returned on 29 and 30 July. At the Municipal Real de Rozas Residence, 43 of its 50 residents were temporarily relocated to the Valdeluz Residence in Tres Cantos and returned on 29 July; the rest stayed with their families.
Dávila thanked the coordination and involvement of the professionals from the evacuated centres, who accompanied users during the days of transfer. This action is part of the extraordinary social measures promoted by the regional government to assist the 17 affected localities, with a budget of 10 million euros.
Additionally, the Ministry of Family has launched an extraordinary device to strengthen care for elderly and disabled individuals in a situation of dependency. Specialised professionals will visit their homes to provide care and companionship, as a complement to the benefits already recognised, with the aim of facilitating their return to normality and family reconciliation.
The Advanced Teleassistance service has also been reinforced, with more follow-up calls and continuous assessment of each person to detect situations of sudden loneliness and refer, when necessary, to specialised support, including psychological accompaniment.
