The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has announced a line of aid amounting to 1 million euros for SMEs and self-employed individuals in Sierra Oeste to recover their digital systems following the wildfires.
The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced this Thursday the launch of a line of aid endowed with one million euros to restore the digital systems and services of SMEs and self-employed individuals affected by the wildfires that have ravaged Sierra Oeste. The measure was approved in an extraordinary Council of Government, which also agreed on a package of immediate and medium-term actions for the reconstruction of the area.
The grants, which are part of the regional reconstruction plan, are designed to help affected businesses regain their operational capacity as soon as possible. Each self-employed individual or small and medium-sized enterprise can receive up to 5,000 euros to cover the replacement or restoration of connectivity, computer equipment, point-of-sale terminals (TPV), network devices, and other technological elements. Expenses related to data recovery and information systems will also be covered.
Additionally, the aid can be allocated to the implementation of business management solutions, e-commerce, cloud services, remote work tools, backups, and cybersecurity measures. In cases where necessary, it will also be possible to finance the establishment of temporary premises or the temporary relocation of activities.
The regional government has detailed that beneficiaries will receive specialized support services. A team of experts will assess the impact of the fires on each business, provide a personalized diagnosis, and advise on the most appropriate technological solutions to recover systems and strengthen the capacity to respond to future incidents.
Self-employed individuals, shops, professionals, micro-enterprises, and small businesses located in the affected municipalities that have suffered material damage, loss of equipment, or significant interruptions in their activities due to the fires will be eligible for this line of aid. The Community of Madrid will process the grants through a simplified procedure compatible with other support measures, aiming to accelerate the reactivation of the economic fabric in the affected areas.
A relevant aspect is that expenses incurred since the start of the emergency will be eligible for funding, allowing those affected to begin recovery without waiting for the official announcement of the call for applications. This measure aims to expedite the return to normality for businesses, many of which have seen their activities abruptly interrupted.
The wildfires that have affected Sierra Oeste have caused significant material damage in several localities, with losses extending beyond mere technology. However, the regional government has sought to focus on digital recovery as a lever for economic reactivation, aware that connectivity and computer systems are essential for any business today.
To access the aid, interested parties must prove their status as self-employed or SMEs, as well as the damages suffered. The Community of Madrid will soon publish the official call for applications, although they can already begin preparing the necessary documentation. Affected individuals are advised to keep all invoices and expense receipts from the start of the emergency.
This line of aid adds to other measures already announced for the reconstruction of Sierra Oeste, such as those aimed at infrastructure, housing, and psychological support.
