The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has announced an emergency contract of one million euros to support livestock farms damaged by the forest fire in Sierra Oeste. The measure includes livestock feed, veterinary care, and facility repairs.
The Community of Madrid has activated an emergency contract valued at one million euros to support farmers whose operations have been affected by the forest fire that is still active in Sierra Oeste. This was announced by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, after meeting with the mayors of the affected municipalities at the Advanced Command Post.
The investment, managed through the public company Tragsa, aims to cover the most urgent needs of the livestock sector in the areas ravaged by the flames. Among the planned actions is the purchase of feed and forage for livestock, as well as the provision of veterinary assistance to animals that have suffered burns or other injuries.
Additionally, the regional government will finance emergency work on the damaged farms, such as improving access, repairing enclosures, and removing deceased animals. These tasks will be carried out by Tragsa, which has already received the order to act as quickly as possible.
The fire, which continues to mobilise a large emergency response, has caused significant damage to several livestock farms in the region. Affected farmers will be able to apply for this aid to address immediate losses and ensure the welfare of their animals.
During the meeting with the mayors, Díaz Ayuso thanked the collaboration of the municipalities, residents, and volunteers who are participating in managing the crisis. The president described the behaviour of the population during these days as "exemplary and civic" and highlighted that the coordination between administrations and emergency services is enabling an effective response to the disaster.
This measure adds to other actions that the Community of Madrid has implemented to address the fire, considered one of the most severe in recent years in the region. The regional government has kept the emergency response activated and continues to assess the damage to design new lines of support for the affected sectors.
Farmers interested in applying for this aid must contact the regional offices of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, which will coordinate the processing of applications. The first payments are expected to be made in the coming weeks, once Tragsa certifies the actions taken.
The Sierra Oeste fire has already ravaged thousands of hectares of forest and has forced the evacuation of several towns. Firefighting services are working tirelessly to contain the flames, while farmers are trying to save as many livestock as possible and recover their farms.
