The City Council of Aranjuez has been awarded the 2025 Seven Stars of Sport Prize in the category of Promoting Sport from Local Administration, as announced by the regional Government.
The City Council of Aranjuez has been distinguished with the 2025 Seven Stars of Sport Prize from the Community of Madrid, in the category of Promoting Sport from Local Administration. This is one of the highest recognitions granted by the regional Government in the sporting field, as reported by the Council.
The distinction was communicated to the City Council by the Community of Madrid following the decision of the jury, which was subsequently ratified by the Governing Council. The jury valued the sports policy developed by Aranjuez, highlighting its commitment to promoting sports practice, fostering healthy lifestyle habits, and the contribution of sport as a tool for social cohesion for all residents.
The Community of Madrid has emphasized that the model promoted by Aranjuez, which takes advantage of its unique natural heritage, serves as a reference for the entire region. The Mayor of Aranjuez, Miguel Gómez Herrero, expressed his satisfaction with the award and stated that “this prize is the result of the work done to continue promoting sport as a tool for well-being, integration, and development for our city.”
Gómez Herrero added that “this is a recognition that belongs to the entire family of riverside sport: clubs, athletes, federations, educational centres, parents' associations, technicians, municipal workers, and all the residents who have made and continue to make sport a fundamental part of their lives.” The mayor assured that Aranjuez will continue to prioritise sport as a government focus, promoting sports practice for all ages, improving municipal facilities, and utilising the natural environment to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits.
The Seven Stars of Sport Awards represent the highest recognition granted by the Community of Madrid to individuals, entities, and institutions for their contribution to the development and promotion of sport in the region. In the edition corresponding to 2024 and 2025, pilots Álex and Marc Márquez, former basketball player Sergio Rodríguez, athlete María Pérez, and footballer Vicky López, among other awardees, have also been distinguished.
With this award, the Community of Madrid acknowledges the commitment of the City Council of Aranjuez to sport as a driver of health, coexistence, and quality of life, as well as the work carried out to bring sports practice closer to the entire citizenry.
