The City Council of Leganés has announced an investment of €301,809.50 to renew the athletics track at the El Carrascal Sports Complex and modernise the filtration systems of the swimming pools at the El Carrascal and Olimpia sports centres. The work, with a one-month deadline, aims to correct deficiencies from 2020 and improve water quality.
The City Council of Leganés has approved an investment of €301,809.50 to carry out improvements in several municipal sports facilities. The main actions will focus on the renewal of the athletics track at the El Carrascal Sports Complex and the modernisation of the filtration systems of the swimming pools at the El Carrascal and Olimpia sports centres.
Both projects have a planned execution period of one month and aim to enhance both sports practice and the operation of facilities that, according to the City Council, were poorly executed from the outset by the previous government in the case of the tracks, or have deteriorated due to use and the passage of time in the case of the filtration systems.
The athletics track at El Carrascal will undergo an intervention aimed at recovering optimal usage conditions following its poor original reconstruction, which dates back to 2020. The work will consist of repaving the surface using a retoping system, utilising the existing pavement as a base.
Prior to this, a superficial sanding will be carried out to ensure proper adhesion of the new material, and in areas where necessary, the deteriorated base layer will be replaced. The investment allocated to this project amounts to €112,676.71.
This action will particularly improve the main straight and the areas designated for long jump and triple jump events, recovering the original technical specifications that were not executed for the pavement and ensuring greater safety for athletes.
The second project involves the renewal of the filtration systems of the swimming pools at the El Carrascal and Olimpia sports centres. This action will increase the efficiency of the filtration systems, optimise the maintenance of the facilities, and improve water quality.
At the El Carrascal sports centre, filters, pipes, and valves will be replaced in both the adult and children's pools, in addition to reorganising the hydraulic installations to simplify their operation and facilitate maintenance tasks.
Meanwhile, in the adult pool at the Olimpia sports centre, a new, higher-capacity filtration system will be installed, consisting of new filters, pumps, motors, pre-filters, and conduits, as well as sealing the joints of the tanks using high-performance materials. The planned investment in this case amounts to €189,132.79.
These works will provide a direct improvement for users of the facilities, who will be able to enjoy athletics tracks in better condition and cleaner, safer pool water. Additionally, the modernisation of the filtration systems will contribute to more efficient and sustainable long-term maintenance of the facilities.
The City Council of Leganés has emphasised that these actions respond to the commitment to provide quality sports infrastructure, correcting inherited deficiencies and adapting the facilities to current needs. The work will take place over the next month, so users are advised to pay attention to municipal notices regarding possible impacts on the use of the facilities.
