The Community of Madrid has delivered a fleet of 25 cleaning vehicles to the Valle del Lozoya Consortium, with an investment of 11.5 million euros, which will serve 85 towns in the Sierra Norte.
The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, visited Prádena del Rincón on Tuesday to hand over the new fleet to the Valle del Lozoya Consortium. The vehicles, which include seven waste collection trucks and 12 state-of-the-art street sweepers, will be used to improve street cleaning and waste management in the region.
The regional investment amounts to 11.5 million euros, as part of a broader package of 35 supramunicipal actions totalling 200 million across the region. Other notable projects include a park-and-ride facility in Prádena del Rincón, two slaughterhouses in Buitrago del Lozoya and Colmenar Viejo, the expansion of residences in Robledillo and Pinilla de Buitrago, the new headquarters of the Picasso Museum in Buitrago del Lozoya, and the construction of six fire stations.
Additionally, the Valle del Lozoya Consortium will make the vehicles available to municipalities affected by the Sierra Oeste fire, as confirmed by the minister during the handover event. The aim is to assist in cleaning, waste removal, and the reconstruction of damaged areas.
“This collaboration between towns is an example of the region's solidarity and the joint commitment to support the affected residents until their communities are fully restored,” García Martín stated.
The Community of Madrid has also allocated 20 million euros from the Reserve Fund of the Regional Investment Programme to finance cleaning efforts and urgent damage repairs in areas affected by the fires. So far, the work has allowed for the removal of more than 1,600 cubic meters of belongings and debris, equivalent to 280 containers, as well as over 3,500 cubic meters of plant waste, nearly 600 additional containers.
The regional government has also made available to the affected municipalities off-road vehicles such as pick-ups and professional machinery, like brush cutters and chainsaws, to facilitate recovery efforts on the ground.
With this fleet, the regional government strengthens public services in the Sierra Norte, an area covering 85 towns, and ensures that all Madrilenians, regardless of the municipality they reside in, can access better services, infrastructure, and facilities, as reiterated by the government.
