The Colmenar Viejo Town Hall has begun works to update the playing surface of Pavilion B at the Municipal Sports Complex Lorenzo Rico, with a budget of €49,743. The works will last for a month and will improve the surface for basketball, handball, futsal, volleyball, and badminton.

The Pavilion B of the Municipal Sports Complex Lorenzo Rico in Colmenar Viejo is now under construction. The Town Hall has started the renovation of the multipurpose court, an action that has a budget of €49,743.10 (including VAT) and will last for a month. The awarded company will also be responsible for the subsequent maintenance of the surface.

A court worn out by intensive use

The Councillor for Sports, Fabiola Cebrián Pérez, explained that the current flooring had lost elasticity and grip, which affected the performance of athletes. “The court of Pavilion B already shows the wear typical of years of activity and intensive use by our athletes,” she pointed out. The paint and regulatory markings were also deteriorated, which is why a complete renewal has been opted for.

The action not only modernises the surface but also incorporates a new design for the basketball, handball, futsal, volleyball, mini-volleyball, and badminton areas. This ensures that the lines and playing areas comply with the current regulations of each discipline.

Improvements for clubs and users in the municipality

The Lorenzo Rico Sports Complex is one of the key facilities in Colmenar Viejo, used daily by numerous local clubs and sports schools. The renovation of Pavilion B will allow athletes to train and compete in optimal conditions, as highlighted by Cebrián. “We continue to ensure that players and users have conditions that allow for enjoyment and daily practice of sport in a safe and suitable environment,” she added.

The residents of Colmenar Viejo, especially those who practice indoor sports, will notice the improvement in the quality of the floor, which will offer greater grip and cushioning. The works, which began this week, will be carried out without completely interrupting the activity of the complex, although some schedules may be affected.

Municipal investment in sports infrastructure

This action adds to other investments by the Town Hall in sports facilities, such as the recent improvement of the grass on the football field or the renovation of the lighting in the main pavilion. The budget of €49,743 comes from municipal funds, within the allocation for the maintenance of sports infrastructure.

The winning company of the public tender will be responsible for carrying out the works and, once completed, will take care of the preservation and repair of the court for a specified period. This guarantees that the surface remains in good condition for a longer time.

The athletes of Colmenar Viejo will be able to enjoy the new court starting next month, just in time for the winter competition season. Undoubtedly, good news for basketball, handball, and futsal fans in the municipality.
