VOX denounces a €37 million increase in tax collection in Alcobendas

VOX Alcobendas reports a €37 million increase in tax collection by the PP-led council, calling the €269,000 tax cut 'meagre'.

The municipal group of VOX in Alcobendas has denounced that the council, governed by the PP, has increased annual tax and fee collection by over €37 million compared to 2023, despite announcing cuts.

The municipal group of VOX in Alcobendas has focused on the fiscal management of the local PP government, led by Mayor Rocío García Alcántara. According to their calculations, by comparing the budget settlement of 2023 with the accounts approved for 2026, the council has increased annual tax and fee collection by €37 million. A figure that, they claim, contradicts the tax cut narrative defended by the governing team.

A 'meagre' cut against the overall increase

VOX thus counters the campaign of the mayor and the first deputy mayor, Marta Martín, who have defended a modification of the tax ordinances for the coming year. For the party, the proposed cut barely represents a real saving of €269,000 annually for all residents, an amount they consider insignificant as it does not reach 1% of the excess collected.

VOX spokesperson Fernando Montenegro has reminded that their party achieved the approval in the municipal Plenary of two motions proposing reductions of at least €9 million aimed at easing the economic burden on families, self-employed individuals, and small businesses. However, he criticises that the PP supported these initiatives to “continue with their propaganda” but has not translated them into a real and effective tax cut.

Public services at a minimum

The party insists that it is unacceptable to maintain high tax pressure while essential public services in the municipality, such as cleaning, security, or street asphalting, are currently at a minimum. Therefore, they demand a more efficient administration that prioritises taxpayer savings, arguing that money is best managed directly in the pockets of residents.

VOX's denunciation comes amid a budget debate in the Alcobendas council, where the PP governs with a minority. The opposition has taken the opportunity to remind that, despite announcements of cuts, tax pressure continues to grow. Residents, for their part, see the cost of living increase while public services do not improve.

The party has indicated that it will remain vigilant and will submit objections to the tax ordinances to try to translate them into real relief for the pockets of Alcobendas residents. Meanwhile, the debate over the council's economic management promises to continue in the upcoming plenaries.
