The 24-year-old Italian forward, who arrived as a European prospect in 2025, has barely featured for the coach. The white club is looking for a way out for him in the EuroLeague or Liga Endesa, although his high salary complicates the operation.
Real Madrid continues planning for the next season in a summer marked by uncertainty. In parallel to the search for reinforcements, the sports management is working to lighten the squad, and one of the players who could leave is Gabriele Procida. The 2.01-metre tall, 24-year-old Italian forward has been offered to several clubs in both the EuroLeague and Liga Endesa on loan, as MARCA has learned.
The operation, however, is not straightforward. Procida earns a salary close to one million euros at Real Madrid, an amount that many teams consider prohibitive. For the loan to materialise, the club that takes him in would need to cover his wages - or at least part of them - and guarantee him minutes with a certain level of prominence, which is what the player desires.
The Italian joined the white team on July 25, 2025, from ALBA Berlin, where he had demonstrated great potential. At 23 years old at the time, he arrived in Madrid as one of the young prospects in European basketball. In fact, in 2024 he was named the EuroLeague's rising star, an award previously won by players such as Rudy Fernández, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Mirotic, Luka Doncic, and Bogdan Bogdanovic.
However, expectations were not met. Coach Sergio Scariolo barely gave him minutes, and Procida was overlooked on numerous occasions. Throughout the season, he only played 37 games between the Liga Endesa and the EuroLeague. In the domestic competition, he averaged 14:22 minutes per game, with 6.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and a rating of 5.8. In the European front, his participation was minimal: eight games with an average of 4:59 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.5 rebounds, and a rating of 0.9.
Despite his limited playing time, Procida showed flashes of quality. He stands out for his great physical ability, acceptable defence, and a good shooting percentage from three-point range: 41.9% in the ACB and 40.0% in the EuroLeague. Many believe he could have been better utilised in a season where Real Madrid played over 80 games and the coaching staff closely monitored rotations and rest periods.
The player is contracted with Real Madrid until 2028, so there are still two seasons remaining. The white club hopes to find a destination that allows him to gain minutes and continue developing. For the Madrid fan, Procida's potential departure represents a squad adjustment that could free up salary space and allow for new reinforcements to arrive.
We will have to wait to see if the loan ultimately materialises. For now, Real Madrid continues to probe the market in search of a solution that satisfies all parties.
