The Community of Madrid has organised a cybersecurity scavenger hunt for children aged 6 to 17. Over 70 participants have learned to protect their data and detect scams on the Internet.
The Cybersecurity Demonstration Centre of the Community of Madrid hosted the Cyberheroes scavenger hunt on Thursday, an initiative aimed at raising awareness among children and young people about the importance of digital security. More than 70 minors aged between 6 and 17 participated in the games, challenges, and interactive activities organised from 09:30 to 14:00.
The Minister of Digitalisation, Miguel López-Valverde, attended the event and highlighted the initiative's objective: “We want to promote awareness among Madrilenians about cyber protection. By launching this initiative, we are providing citizens with tools to prevent incidents so they can protect their information from potential scams.”
Attendees were able to test their knowledge and skills in various competitions on cybersecurity, hacking, data protection, privacy, and password policy. Depending on their age group, they faced eight different challenges, including card games, quizzes, demos, activities simulating attacks and technological defenses, and exercises to identify trustworthy links and websites versus fraudulent ones.
Additionally, participants received talks on basic cybersecurity concepts. The day was supported by MadriDefenders, the specialised team from the Cybersecurity Agency of the Community of Madrid, which represents the region in global sector competitions.
With this initiative, the regional government aims to integrate fun and learning in an increasingly digitalised world. The goal is to teach all citizens, especially the young, to protect their data and that of their surroundings, as well as to detect scams and crimes on the Internet.
The Cyberheroes scavenger hunt is part of a broader strategy by the Community of Madrid to promote cybersecurity among the population. Minister López-Valverde emphasised the importance of educating minors from an early age to adopt safe habits in the use of technology.
