An individual wielding a knife threatened two cyclists on a forest track in Cercedilla, in the Sierra de Madrid. The events occurred last weekend and the Civil Guard is investigating what happened.

Two mountain bikers experienced moments of panic last Saturday on a forest track in Cercedilla when a man armed with a knife approached them in a threatening manner. The incident, which has caused alarm among local sports enthusiasts, is being investigated by the Civil Guard of the area.

The events took place around 11:00 hours on a rural path near the Puerto de Navacerrada, a route frequently used by mountain biking enthusiasts. According to the report filed by the victims, the individual, described as a man in his 40s, was wearing dark clothing and carrying a large knife. Upon seeing the cyclists, he began shouting at them and making gestures with the weapon, forcing them to stop and retreat several metres.

The victims, two residents of Collado Villalba aged 34 and 41, managed to flee the scene without physical harm, although they reported having had a “great scare.” Immediately afterwards, they alerted the Civil Guard, which has opened an investigation to locate the assailant. Officers have searched the area without success so far.

The Town Hall of Cercedilla has expressed its concern over the incident and has advised athletes to exercise caution on mountain routes, especially on less frequented ones. “This is not a common occurrence, but it’s wise to be alert,” municipal sources stated. They also reminded the importance of reporting any incidents to the authorities.

Such incidents are uncommon in the Sierra de Madrid, an area that attracts thousands of visitors every weekend for hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities. The Civil Guard is not ruling out any hypotheses, although the main line of investigation points to a possible mental disorder of the assailant, given the lack of an apparent motive.

The affected cyclists have received psychological support and have decided to continue with their sporting activities, albeit with greater caution. “We’re not going to stop cycling, but now we’re more aware of our surroundings,” one of them stated.

The investigation remains open and citizen cooperation is requested to identify the suspect. Anyone who has seen an individual with similar characteristics in the area can contact the Civil Guard of Cercedilla.
