Atlético de Madrid will have nine players on the pitch at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (United States) this Sunday, July 19, in the final of the 2026 World Cup. The Spanish and Argentine teams, featuring rojiblanco players on both sides, will compete for the title starting at 21:00 hours, peninsular time.
Four colchoneros with Spain
Álex Baena, Marcos Llorente, Marc Pubill, and Alejandro Grimaldo will defend the colours of Spain in the grand final. Luis de la Fuente's team eliminated France 2-0 on Tuesday in Dallas, in the tournament's first semifinal.
Five with Argentina
Julián Álvarez, Giuliano Simeone, Juan Musso, Thiago Almada, and Nahuel Molina will play in the final with the Argentine national team, the reigning world champions. La Albiceleste came back against England on Wednesday, winning 2-1 in Atlanta, thus securing their place in the final.
Atlético arrived at the World Cup with twelve representatives. The eliminations of Uruguay, with José María Giménez; Mexico, with Obed Vargas; and Norway, with Alexander Sorloth, reduced the number to the nine players now vying for the title this Sunday.
The coaching staff led by Diego Simeone is closely monitoring the physical condition of their squad ahead of the upcoming pre-season, which will begin with several players still on holiday after their participation in the tournament.
