The Torrejón establishment Carnes Javier y Familia has been awarded one of the prestigious Jewels of Charcuterie at the CharcutEXPO 2026 fair, held at IFEMA Madrid. The mayor, Alejandro Navarro, visited the shop to congratulate its manager, Javier Mantecón.

The neighbourhood shop that triumphs with skill and passion. Carnes Javier y Familia, located in the La Plaza Commercial Gallery of Torrejón de Ardoz, has just received a national award: the Jewel of Charcuterie, presented at CharcutEXPO 2026, the major international charcuterie fair held on June 16 and 17 at IFEMA Madrid.

A prize that tastes of tradition and effort

The award is not just a simple trophy. The Jewels of Charcuterie recognise establishments that shine for their excellence, professionalism, and love for the craft. This is precisely what has defined this family business from Torrejón since its origins.

Now, the business enters a new phase under the leadership of Javier Mantecón Ureña, the second generation of butchers and charcutiers. Together with his wife, Paula Andrea Correa, they maintain their commitment to quality, close service, and personalised attention that has won them their clientele.

“I want to thank customers, suppliers, family, and friends for the trust placed in us over all these years. This award is also a reflection of the support received from those who are part of our daily operations,” said the manager, Javier Mantecón Ureña.

The mayor joins the celebration

The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, did not want to miss the opportunity. He visited the shop to personally congratulate Javier and his team. “This award is a source of pride for Torrejón de Ardoz, as it highlights the excellence, effort, professionalism, and commitment to quality of one of our local businesses,” the mayor emphasised.

And indeed, the award not only makes the Mantecón family proud. It also projects the name of Torrejón de Ardoz onto an international stage like CharcutEXPO, where the best professionals in the sector gather.

What the jury values in the Jewels of Charcuterie

The award is not given lightly. A jury of industry professionals evaluated the applications based on criteria such as the selection of quality and sustainable products, commitment to suppliers and responsible practices, the incorporation of new business concepts, the customer experience offered, and technological innovation in management.

At Carnes Javier y Familia, they exceed expectations. Their counter serves as a calling card: hams, cold cuts, cheeses, and carefully selected meats, all accompanied by advice that turns each purchase into a gastronomic experience.

A neighbourhood shop looking to the future

The award comes at a sweet moment for small local businesses, which resist against large retail chains. Carnes Javier y Familia demonstrates that quality and human interaction remain the best recipe for customer loyalty.

And take note, this is not the end. The award already hangs in the shop, but the Mantecón family is not resting on their laurels. “This award encourages us to continue working every day with the same enthusiasm, dedication, and respect for a craft that is part of our country’s gastronomic tradition,” Javier concludes.

The residents of Torrejón now have one more reason to feel proud of their local shop. And on top of that, a perfect excuse to drop by the La Plaza Commercial Gallery and visit the counter of Carnes Javier y Familia. The ham, they say, is award-winning.
