The Arganda del Rey City Council will begin air conditioning works for the over 570 m² auditorium of the Senior Centre on July 21, with a budget of €102,925 co-financed by the Community of Madrid.
Next Tuesday, July 21, works will commence to install air conditioning in the auditorium of the Senior Centre in Arganda del Rey, a space of over 570 square metres that previously lacked a modern heating and cooling system. The awarded company will start the work by dismantling the old installation and unloading materials, as reported by the City Council.
The project, with an execution period of three months, will involve an investment of €102,925.38, co-financed by the Community of Madrid through the Regional Investment Programme (PIR). The result will be a completely new system that will replace the obsolete existing installation, enhancing the comfort of the centre's users.
A Priority for the Municipal Government
The Mayor of Arganda, Alberto Escribano, has highlighted that this action responds to a commitment made at the beginning of the legislature: “From the first day we arrived, we promised that the elderly would be one of our main priorities, because they deserve it and because they could not continue suffering from inaction and the lack of essential services from those who were here before”, he stated in a statement.
The air conditioning of the auditorium adds to other improvements made at the Senior Centre during this term, such as the implementation of a new nursing service, the widening of sidewalks to improve access for people with reduced mobility, and the complete renovation of the cafeteria service. These actions aim to make the centre a more accessible and functional space for the elderly in the locality.
Details of the Work and Schedule
The work will focus on the auditorium, the main leisure and meeting space of the centre, where the new air conditioning equipment will be installed. During the first weeks, the dismantling of the old installation will take place, which will be completely removed. The forecast is that the works will be completed within three months, so the new system could be operational before the start of autumn.
The project has been awarded following a public tender process and is financed by the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) of the Community of Madrid, which co-finances infrastructure improvement actions in the municipalities of the region. The total investment of €102,925 will provide the centre with an efficient system tailored to the users' needs.

The Senior Centre of Arganda del Rey, located in the urban area, serves hundreds of local residents. The air conditioning of the auditorium was a long-standing demand, as high summer temperatures and winter cold limited the use of this space for much of the year. With this work, the elderly will be able to enjoy activities, workshops, and gatherings in optimal conditions throughout the year.
The mayor has emphasized that the municipal government will continue to work to improve the quality of life for the elderly, a group he considers a priority.
