The M-507, one of the main roads in Sierra Oeste, is back in operation except for an eight-kilometre stretch. Five other roads have resumed total or partial circulation.
The Community of Madrid has begun the gradual reopening of roads affected by the forest fire that ravaged Sierra Oeste. The M-507 becomes the first road to recover traffic almost completely, although the regional government has not yet set a date for its full reopening.
According to the regional government, six roads have now restored circulation, either fully or partially, thus taking the first steps towards normality in an area hit hard by the fire.
The M-507 remains open except between kilometres 28 and 36, near the Encinar del Alberche urbanisation. This eight-kilometre stretch remains closed for safety reasons, while emergency teams continue to work in the area.
Five other roads have resumed circulation: the M-501 is open except at the accesses to Pelayos de la Presa; the M-510, between kilometres 20 and 54; the M-521, partially, with the stretch between kilometres 29 and 39 closed; the M-533, which has opened its kilometre point 0; and the M-855, which is completely passable.
In contrast, the M-512, M-534, M-537, M-539, M-540, and M-541 remain closed. In total, the fire has affected nearly 180 kilometres of the regional road network, with incidents on thirteen roads in Sierra Oeste.
The reopening of the remaining roads will depend on the evolution of the situation and whether safety conditions allow vehicle access, according to sources from the regional government.
Damage Assessment and Reconstruction
Alongside the reopening, the Community of Madrid has initiated the assessment and reconstruction of the infrastructure damaged by the fire. Technicians from the General Directorate of Roads are inspecting the various sections to determine the extent of the damage and plan the necessary actions.
The planned works include the repair of pavements and asphalts, the replacement of signage, the restoration of safety barriers, the review of structures and drainage systems, as well as the evaluation of affected trees along the roads.
The regional government has indicated that the recovery of mobility will continue gradually in the coming days, as long as the evolution of the fire allows for the safety of drivers and the teams working on the ground.
For residents of municipalities such as Rozas de Puerto Real, Cadalso de los Vidrios, or San Martín de Valdeiglesias, the reopening of the M-507 is a relief, as it is a key route for their daily commutes. However, they will still need to use detours until the closure at the Encinar del Alberche stretch is lifted.
Authorities recommend checking the status of the roads before embarking on any journey through Sierra Oeste and exercising caution due to the possible presence of emergency vehicles and construction machinery.
