The Itiner Network of the Community of Madrid has scheduled ten exhibitions for this summer in municipalities such as Miraflores de la Sierra, Valdemoro, Galapagar, and Alcobendas, featuring works by Eduardo Arroyo, Óscar Domínguez, and Marisa Flórez.
The Community of Madrid has unveiled the summer programme of the Itiner Network, a circuit of exhibitions that this year will reach 14 municipalities in the region. The initiative, which includes 78 municipalities, aims to bring culture to localities that do not always have large exhibition spaces.
Among the proposals, the exhibition “The Route of the Manila Galleon” stands out, recreating the first major system of global exchange between Asia, Latin America, and Spain through the so-called tornaviaje. The exhibition includes Manila shawls, lacquered boxes, silver coins, a model of the galleon, and graphic material. It will be on display from August 3 to 13 in Villavieja del Lozoya and from August 17 to September 7 in Miraflores de la Sierra.
Photography plays a special role in the lineup. The exhibition “Marisa Flórez. A Time to Look (1970-2020)” brings together 36 images that review five decades of Spanish history through politics, activism, social chronicle, and culture. It will be open from August 10 to 30 in La Hiruela.
Also with a photographic focus, the exhibition “Popular Music. A Photographic Vision” addresses the role of traditional music in collective identity. It includes images from authors such as Clifford, Laurent, Alfonso, and Santos Yubero, as well as instruments loaned by the Joaquín Díaz Ethnographic Centre Foundation. It will be in Villavieja del Lozoya from August 18 to September 1 and in Galapagar from September 3 to 24.
The Canary artist Óscar Domínguez features in the exhibition “Surrealisms”, a review of his career as a painter, sculptor, and poet, and his relationship with international surrealism. The exhibition will remain in Becerril de la Sierra until August 3 and will be on display in Alpedrete from August 28 to September 19.
Historical memory is addressed in “Centenarians from Madrid. The Wisdom of Longevity”, which gathers photographs and testimonies from people who lived through the Civil War, the post-war period, the dictatorship, and the consolidation of democracy. It will be available in Los Molinos until August 2, and from August 27 to September 17, it will move to Collado Villalba.
The programme also includes “Precine”, an exhibition featuring pieces from the Mur collection that reviews inventions prior to the cinematograph, such as dark rooms, magic lanterns, and optical toys. It will arrive in Miraflores de la Sierra until August 11, in Collado Mediano from August 13 to September 3, and in Talamanca del Jarama from September 7 to 27.
In September, the Madrid artist Eduardo Arroyo will be the focus of “Eduardo Arroyo. Origin of an Artist”, which presents for the first time the drawings he made in Paris in 1963, following his political exile. The 80 illustrations, published at that time in the magazine Point de Vue – Images du Monde, anticipate key aspects of his later work. It will be on view in San Lorenzo de El Escorial from August 31 to September 21.
Contemporary creation will be represented by “Elogio de lo manual”, a reflection on the value of artisanal work through painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture, which will be exhibited in Valdemoro from September 1 to 22.
The programme is completed by “Madrid. Ghost Cartography”, about the unofficial urban memories of the capital with works by Amalia Avia, Marisa Flórez, Ramón Masats, Nicolás Combarro, and Víctor Moreno, from September 10 to October 2 in Alcobendas; and “Affection for Colour”, a collective exhibition featuring works by Juan Carlos Bracho, Paloma Gámez, David Magán, Ruth Morán, and Julio Sarramián, from September 15 to October 7 in Villaviciosa de Odón.
The Itiner Network is part of the Community of Madrid's strategy to strengthen territorial cohesion and ensure equality in access to culture.
