Getafe unveils skating rink and mini pump track in Buenavista, a €300,000 investment from Participatory Budgets.

The Getafe City Council has received the works of a new skating rink and a mini pump track for children in the Buenavista neighbourhood, an investment of nearly €300,000 that responds to a request from residents through the Participatory Budgets.

The residents of Getafe can now enjoy the new sports facilities in the Buenavista neighbourhood. The City Council has received the works of a 286 square metre skating rink and a 225 square metre mini pump track, which complete the existing free-use sports area.

A community demand made reality

The project, which has involved an investment of nearly €300,000, arises from the Participatory Budgets, where the residents themselves decided the allocation of investments in their neighbourhood. This was highlighted by the Councillor for Public Space, Maite Mellado:

“We are responding with these facilities to the request made by residents through the Participatory Budgets, deciding how investments are allocated in their neighbourhoods. We are seeing how the facilities for free sports use are growing in Buenavista.”

Features of the new facilities

The skating rink, with a total area of 286 square metres, is designed for the Short Track Roller Derby modality and is divided into indoor and outdoor tracks, adapting to different ages. The Mini Pump Track, covering 225 square metres, allows for cycling and other wheel sports, with a simple design that makes it easy for younger children to be accompanied by their parents. The circuit includes speed jumps of varying heights to aid in learning inertia.

In addition to the rink and the circuit, the area will be completed with 1,800 square metres of green spaces and trees to provide shade, as well as benches for families. A network of paths has been designed to provide access to the space from Avenida Isabel de Palencia, Paseo de Santiago Carrillo, and the rest of the sports area. New public lighting and an irrigation system complete the project.

More trees after summer

The City Council has planned that, once the heat passes and the planting season arrives, new trees will be added to create more shaded areas in the zone. For now, residents can freely use all the facilities, which complement the existing free-access multi-sport courts for football, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, climbing area, and table tennis in the neighbourhood.

Getafe continues to expand its free sports offerings, focusing on citizen participation and the use of public spaces. The residents of Buenavista, who had already requested these improvements, now see their neighbourhood gaining in facilities and quality of life. And all this without having to pay a euro for their use: just come, enjoy, and who knows, perhaps be encouraged to take a few laps on a bike or skates.
