The Community of Madrid celebrates the VI edition of the Fiesta del Toro with 25 events in 17 municipalities. The grand final of the Copa Chenel will be held for the first time at the Plaza de Las Ventas on July 30.
The Community of Madrid has launched the sixth edition of the Fiesta del Toro, a programme that includes 25 bullfighting events spread across 17 municipalities in the region. The Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior, Carlos Novillo, presented the poster for the grand final of the Copa Chenel, which will be held for the first time at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas on July 30.
A commitment to young bullfighters
The aim of the regional government, according to Novillo, is to “support young bullfighters from their first steps to their consolidation as great figures.” The minister emphasised that these competitions “help ensure the future of bullfighting, as they are the first important events for many of these young people who, from a very young age, already feel the calling.”
In the final of the Copa Chenel, the bullfighters Alejandro Marcos, Héctor Gutiérrez and Manuel Diosleguarde will face off against cattle from the farms El Capea and Carmen Lorenzo. The winner will secure a spot on the poster for the Corrida de la Hispanidad, which will take place at Las Ventas on October 12 and will close the bullfighting season.
€1.7 million investment
The Fiesta del Toro encompasses the competitions of the Copa Chenel, Kilómetro Cero and the Novilladas Circuit. It is organised by the Fundación Toro de Lidia and financed by the regional government, which has allocated €1.7 million to this sixth edition.
These events have served as a springboard for bullfighters such as Fernando Adrián, Isaac Fonseca or Borja Jiménez. Some participants, like Roberto Martín Jarocho or Álvaro Burdiel, have trained at the regional school José Cubero Yiyo.
A notable fact is that this year bullfighting events have returned to Daganzo de Arriba, which had not held bullfights for 15 years. The return of the festivities to this municipality in the Henares Corridor has been well received by local fans.
Free tickets for minors
To attract a young audience, the organisation has implemented adapted pricing. Minors under 18 have been able to obtain free tickets, while those under 26 have purchased them for ten euros. This measure aims to renew interest and fill the stands with new faces.
The Fiesta del Toro thus establishes itself as a key event in the Madrid bullfighting calendar, combining tradition and new talent. Fans have an appointment on July 30 at Las Ventas to see who will come out on top and earn a place in the Corrida de la Hispanidad.
