The Madrid Handball Federation and the City Council of Coslada have presented the Community of Madrid Trophy, an official pre-season tournament that will take place on September 5 and 6 at the Valleaguado Sports Centre.

The Valleaguado Sports Centre in Coslada will be the venue for the Community of Madrid Handball Trophy, an official pre-season tournament scheduled for the weekend of September 5 and 6, 2026. This was announced on Thursday by the Councillor for Sports in Coslada, Luis Arteaga; the president of the Madrid Handball Federation, José Javier Hombrados; and the president of the Coslada Handball Club, David Puebla, during the event's presentation.

A Tournament for All Categories

The tournament will feature six teams per category in the under-12, under-14, under-16, and youth divisions, for both boys and girls. Matches will be held in the morning and afternoon, lasting 20 minutes each, with 10-minute breaks between games. Each team will play a maximum of four matches, and there will be rankings and trophies for the winners.

The facilities at the Valleaguado Sports Centre, which has four courts, will allow matches to take place simultaneously, speeding up the tournament's pace. According to the organisers, the aim is to provide clubs with a useful tool to fine-tune their preparations for the 2026-2027 season.

More than a Tournament: Community and Training

The Community of Madrid Trophy aims not only for competition but also for fostering camaraderie among young players. The president of the Madrid Handball Federation, José Javier Hombrados, has highlighted that the event will serve as a meeting point for clubs in the region. Additionally, the Technical Committee of Referees of the FMBM will hold its own pre-season 'stage' in parallel, allowing referees to prepare for the new season.

The Technical Area of the regional federation will also use the tournament to scout young talents in the community. Scouts will closely monitor the players to identify potential prospects for Madrid handball.

“This tournament is a unique opportunity for kids to compete in a healthy environment and for clubs to assess their level before the league starts,” stated Councillor Luis Arteaga.

The Coslada Handball Club, a Luxurious Host

The Coslada Handball Club, approaching its 50th anniversary, will be the tournament's host. Its president, David Puebla, expressed his satisfaction at hosting such an event in the city. For the residents of Coslada, the tournament represents an opportunity to enjoy high-level handball without leaving the municipality. The stands of the Valleaguado Sports Centre will be open to the public free of charge, as confirmed by the organisers.

The tournament is part of the City Council of Coslada's commitment to grassroots sports. The Sports Department has invested in improving the facilities to ensure that the event takes place under the best conditions. Teams interested in participating can register through the Madrid Handball Federation until August 15.

For handball fans in the area, the Community of Madrid Trophy will be an unmissable event. The tournament promises an intense weekend of matches, with the chance to see the future stars of the sport. Registrations are already open, and high participation is expected, given the popularity of grassroots handball in the Community of Madrid.
