Mayor Judith Piquet has visited the renovated section of Ronda Fiscal, where the pavements have been improved, planters unified, and new benches installed. The investment amounts to €258,000.
The Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, toured the section of Ronda Fiscal on Wednesday where the pedestrian space renovation works have been completed. The intervention, which involved an investment of nearly €258,000, consisted of a comprehensive improvement of the pavements, the remodelling of the planters, and the installation of new urban furniture.
Accompanied by Deputy Mayor Gustavo Severien and Councillor for Works, Antonio Saldaña, the Mayor checked the results of the work on a busy road that connects the Venecia neighbourhood, Tabla Pintora, and Nueva Alcalá, providing access to the Sementales Park and the football field of the Henares Sports Association.
The project included the complete replacement of the pavement, which was in a very deteriorated state, as well as the curb linking to the roadway. Additionally, new benches have been installed to enhance the stay of pedestrians. As Piquet explained, “this has improved pedestrian accessibility and the sitting space, ensuring a more functional, safe, and comfortable environment for residents and pedestrians.”
Another highlighted action has been the unification of the lateral planters adjacent to the roadway. The ten existing planters have been transformed into a single continuous structure, which has already been prepared with topsoil and is ready for future planting. This measure aims to improve the aesthetics of the area and facilitate its maintenance.
The works are part of the municipal plan ‘Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods’, with which the City Council aims to renew public spaces in various parts of the city. In this case, the intervention on Ronda Fiscal adds to others carried out on the same road last summer, when more than €680,000 was invested in resurfacing, repainting, and improving road safety around schools, between Duquesa de Medinaceli and Gran Canal streets.
Also nearby, part of the fencing along the river promenade in Nueva Alcalá has been renewed, with a budget exceeding €90,000. This action has affected a stretch of 700 meters, with the replacement and repair of wooden fencing through moisture and vandalism treatment.
The Mayor emphasised that “with these actions we continue to advance the modernisation of our neighbourhoods and respond to the demands of our residents, forgotten and neglected for many years.” Piquet added that “together we are making the most necessary and ambitious regeneration plan for Alcalá in recent decades a reality.”
Shortly, the City Council plans to continue with a new phase of pavement renewal on Ronda Fiscal up to Paseo de Pastrana. This will complete the improvement of the entire pedestrian axis, facilitating transit between the Historic Centre, the Venecia neighbourhood, and the Nueva Alcalá and Tabla Pintora area.
Local residents have expressed their satisfaction with the results of the works, which have transformed a space that had been neglected for years. The renewal not only improves the image of the neighbourhood but also increases safety and comfort for pedestrians, especially for those with reduced mobility.
