The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has announced a free legal guidance service for those who have suffered damage from the fires. Twelve lawyers will assist in the judicial districts of San Lorenzo de El Escorial and Navalcarnero.
The Community of Madrid has launched a free legal advice service aimed at individuals affected by the forest fires recorded in the region. This was announced by the president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who explained that the aim is to provide guidance and support in the procedures arising from the emergency situation.
The service will be channelled through the Legal Guidance Services (SOJ) of the Community of Madrid, managed by the Illustrious College of Lawyers of Madrid (ICAM). Two points of attention have been set up, located in the judicial districts of San Lorenzo de El Escorial and Navalcarnero, due to their proximity to the areas most affected by the fire.
A total of 12 lawyers are already available to provide this specialised service. The opening hours have been extended and will be from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:00 hours. The professionals will offer information and advice on claiming damages to homes, properties, and other assets, as well as on processing public aid and compensation.
The management of insurance and the administrative or judicial procedures that may arise from the damages caused will also be addressed. Interested individuals can go to the SOJ in Navalcarnero, at Ronda de San Juan, 32-A, or to the one in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, at Calle Las Pozas, 145.
Additionally, the regional government has set up two free phone lines to resolve queries: 900909220 (San Lorenzo de El Escorial) and 900909224 (Navalcarnero), both operational during the same hours from 9:00 to 14:00 hours.
This measure aims to provide a swift and close response to the residents of the affected areas, many of whom have lost their homes or suffered damage to their properties. The initiative is part of the recovery plan following the fires that have affected the Sierra de Madrid.
The regional government reminds that the SOJ already offered legal guidance services, but they are now reinforced with additional lawyers and extended hours to meet the demand generated by the emergency. The service is completely free and does not require an appointment, although it is recommended to call the designated phone lines to confirm availability.
The fires, which broke out at the end of last month, have devastated hundreds of hectares and forced the evacuation of several towns. The Community of Madrid has already activated other aids, such as those aimed at replacing belongings and repairing homes, and now completes the package with this legal support.
Affected individuals can visit the advice points to resolve any questions about the necessary documentation, deadlines for applying for aid, or possible claims against insurance companies. The lawyers will also inform about the steps to take if they wish to initiate legal proceedings for the damages suffered.
The regional government hopes that this measure will help alleviate the bureaucratic burden on the victims and allow them to focus on recovering their homes and livelihoods. The service will remain active for as long as the emergency situation lasts, and its extension will be evaluated if demand requires it.
