The Pozuelo del Páramo Town Hall has responded to reports about the water shortage in Saludes de Castroponce, stating that the fault was located in a private pipe outside the urban area and that the pressure of the reservoir was never manipulated.
The mayor of Pozuelo del Páramo explained on Thursday the details of the water cut that affected the locality of Saludes de Castroponce, denying that the source was in the municipal network. According to the mayor, the leak occurred in a pipe located within a private property, which delayed its identification as it was not included in the Town Hall's periodic inspections.
A leak on private property, the source of the problem
The Town Hall conducts annual inspections of the municipal supply network in the three population centres of the municipality. During the three years of the current government team's mandate, no significant leaks had been detected, and all faults in the municipal network have generally been repaired within a maximum of two days.
On this occasion, the incident was not found in the municipal network. The source was a leak located in a pipe within a private property, outside the urban area and unrelated to municipal infrastructure. This circumstance made its identification particularly complicated, as that pipe is not part of the network managed by the Town Hall nor is it included in the periodic inspections.
Once the fault was detected, it was repaired and the problem was resolved, municipal sources have confirmed.
Strong denial of manipulation of the reservoir
The Town Hall also strongly denies another of the claims made in previous reports, which stated that the pressure of the reservoir was reduced to restrict supply. "At no time has the pressure of the municipal reservoir been manipulated or regulated," officials from the Town Hall have emphasized.
The system provides the pressure that technically corresponds based on the existing installation. The decrease in pressure that some residents may have noticed was not due to any action by the Town Hall, but rather the significant volume of water that was being lost through the leak located in the private pipe.
In light of the drop in the reservoir level, the Town Hall acted responsibly and published a decree requesting residents to avoid using water for watering gardens, yards, and other non-essential uses, with the sole aim of ensuring supply for domestic consumption.
Call for civic responsibility and an episode with the Local Council
The mayor wants to make it clear that he has never blamed anyone for the water shortage recorded in the village. However, he does consider it necessary to remind that, the day after the decree was published, the gardens of the Local Council were being watered. After attempting to address the situation through a phone call, which ended without understanding, the Town Hall opted to communicate the facts in writing following the administrative procedure.
For the residents of Saludes de Castroponce, the lesson is clear: the next time there is a drop in pressure, before blaming the Town Hall, it would be wise to check if there is a forgotten hose on private property. At least, the supply has now been restored and the reservoir is back to its usual level.
