The Espacio Ocio Pozuelo hosts a summer camp in July with over 60 children and young people with and without disabilities, featuring themed activities and a new sensory stimulation room.
The mayor of Pozuelo de Alarcón, Paloma Tejero, and the councillor for Family and Disability Care, Eva Cabello, visited the Espacio Ocio yesterday to see firsthand the development of the summer workshop camp. During their tour, the authorities participated in some of the scheduled workshops with the participants, such as sensory games, music, and water activities in the pool.
The camp, which is organised bi-weekly, brings together in this first fortnight 37 children and young people aged between 4 and 25. In total, throughout the month, there will be more than 60 registered participants, both with and without disabilities, in an initiative aimed at integration and shared fun.
Themed activities and sensory stimulation
Each day of the camp revolves around a different theme. Yesterday, for example, the kids explored the world of space, while on other days they have travelled to the rainforest, participated in safaris, or competed in summer Olympics. The activities include artistic, experimental, psychomotor, and sensory proposals.
This year, as a new feature, the Espacio Ocio has launched a new sensory stimulation room, an adapted space that allows for highly personalised activities for those who require a more controlled environment. The room adds to the resources that make this centre a benchmark in caring for people with disabilities in Pozuelo.
Family reconciliation with specialised monitors
The camp's schedule, from 8:00 to 17:00 hours, includes a dining service and is designed to facilitate family reconciliation during school holidays. A team of specialised monitors attends to the specific needs of each participant, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
The summer workshop camp is just one part of the municipal programme of summer camps and workshops, which this year is also taking place in five schools in the city, several sports centres, and the Creativity School. The City Council thus offers multiple options for families to balance their work and personal lives.
For the residents of Pozuelo, this initiative provides relief in organising the summer, especially for those with children with special needs. The Espacio Ocio is consolidating itself as a key resource, not only for the recreational activities but also for the inclusive approach it promotes. Places for the second fortnight are already filled, demonstrating the high demand for such programmes.
