The socialists of Majadahonda and Las Rozas join local protests against the project for 400 'flex-living' homes, which would involve the felling of over 200 trees in the El Tejón-Valpardo pine forest.
The PSOE of Majadahonda and Las Rozas has jointly denounced the construction project for 400 'flex-living' homes in the municipality of Las Rozas, an initiative that, they claim, involves the felling of more than 200 trees in the El Tejón-Valpardo pine forest, located on the border between the two municipalities.
The socialists have expressed their support for the local residents, who have been requesting information from the Las Rozas City Council for over two months without receiving a response, according to a statement. “We have asked for information from the City Council and the truth is that they are not providing it. We have been requesting it for over two months for transparency and we are not receiving it,” stated Ángel Álvarez, spokesperson for the PSOE in Majadahonda.
Both parties accuse the mayors of Las Rozas, José De la Uz, and Majadahonda, Lola Moreno, of acting without dialogue or joint urban planning between the two municipalities. “There is no defined city model in either Las Rozas or Majadahonda, and this leads to this type of action without dialogue and without transparency. From the opposition, we will jointly oversee compliance with the law, including environmental and mobility impact studies,” added David Rodríguez Cabrera, spokesperson for the PSOE in Las Rozas.
The socialist representatives demand that both governments sit down with the residents and seek alternatives that do not involve felling trees or further saturating the area's traffic roundabouts. “From the Socialist Party of Las Rozas and Majadahonda, we will continue to defend the residents, defend the environment, and defend a completely different city model,” concluded Ángel Álvarez.
The El Tejón-Valpardo pine forest is a green area that acts as a lung between the two municipalities, widely used by residents for leisure and sport. The construction of the homes, of which no official details are known, could also affect mobility in the area, as the roundabout accessing the Las Rozas Cercanías station already experiences congestion during peak hours.
So far, the Las Rozas City Council has not officially commented on the criticisms, although municipal sources consulted by this newspaper claim that the project complies with urban regulations and that environmental impact reports are being evaluated. Residents, for their part, have called for a demonstration next Saturday in front of the City Council to demand the project's halt.
The PSOE's denunciation comes in a context of growing citizen pressure against the loss of green spaces in the metropolitan crown of Madrid, where urban pressure has led to the felling of trees in several localities in recent months. The socialists have announced that they will present questions at the meetings of both city councils and will request the mayors' appearance to explain the project in detail.
