The City Council of Collado Villalba has launched a new Professional Activation Programme that employs 34 long-term unemployed individuals for eight months, with an investment of over 800,000 euros.
34 long-term unemployed individuals began work this Thursday in Collado Villalba thanks to a municipal programme that combines training and employment. The initiative, funded by the Community of Madrid and the SEPE, will allow for improvements in the streets and schools of the municipality.
The mayor, Mariola Vargas, accompanied by the councillor for Works and Services, Ramón Pavón, welcomed the new workers at an event in the Plenary Hall, where the contracts were signed. The participants will carry out their work in the City Services Area over the next eight months.
Professional profiles and specific tasks
The programme maintains the same profiles as the previous edition, with 11 cleaners, 15 bricklayer assistants, three painter assistants, three electrician assistants, one carpenter assistant, and one blacksmith assistant. According to the mayor, “there are many professional activation profiles, but we have seen that what the residents of Collado Villalba demand the most is for their pavements to be repaired and their buildings to be clean.”
The workers will act in neighbourhoods such as El Gorronal, Villalba Pueblo, and the Station area, where they will carry out tasks such as paving, electrical work, and the gradual installation of LED lighting. Additionally, they will take advantage of school holidays to perform maintenance work in the municipality's educational centres, including masonry, painting, and electrical work.
Investment and complementary training
The programme has a grant of over 627,000 euros from the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment of the Community of Madrid and the SEPE, while the City Council contributes nearly 180,000 euros to complete the execution. In addition to work experience, participants will receive professional guidance and training in personal skills, environmental awareness, and good work practices.
The aim is to strengthen the professional skills of the unemployed and facilitate their reintegration into the labour market, while also developing public utility actions in the municipality. For residents, this translates into better-maintained pavements, schools in better condition, and more efficient lighting.
Local impact and benefits for residents
The 34 new workers not only regain employment but also directly contribute to the improvement of the urban environment. Councillor Ramón Pavón highlighted that the actions will focus on the busiest areas and schools during holiday periods to avoid interfering with school activities.
The programme is aimed at individuals with sufficient qualifications for their profession and seeks to ensure that, after eight months, participants have a better chance of finding stable employment. The initiative is part of the active employment policies of the Community of Madrid, which this year has allocated funds to several municipalities for similar programmes.
The residents of Collado Villalba can already notice the first changes in the coming weeks, when paving and painting work begins in the designated neighbourhoods. The City Council has assured that it will provide timely information about the necessary traffic disruptions for the works.
