The president of the Community of Madrid has travelled to the El Encinar del Alberche urbanisation in Villa del Prado, one of the areas most affected by the fire that broke out yesterday in Almorox (Toledo). Approximately 700 people remain evacuated.
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, visited the El Encinar del Alberche urbanisation in Villa del Prado on Thursday to get first-hand information on the evolution of the fire that broke out yesterday in the Toledo municipality of Almorox and has severely affected this residential area. The urbanisation, which has more than 50 kilometres of streets and nearly 6,000 residents, has been evacuated since the previous night.
A total of 700 people had to leave their homes as a precaution, and more than a hundred are currently housed in the Villa del Prado sports centre, which has been set up as a reception centre. The emergency services operation continues to work in the area to control the hot spots that remain active.
During her visit, Ayuso thanked the efforts of the 150 personnel deployed, including firefighters from the Community of Madrid, forest agents, Civil Guard, Local Police, and Civil Protection. “Right now they are putting their lives on the line to care for others, to protect us, and to extinguish these fires that are at their worst,” the president stated.
In addition, a specific team made up of Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection, Forest Agents, and Firefighters from the Community of Madrid is assessing the material damage to the affected homes. The aim is to plan for the return of residents as safely as possible as soon as possible.
Ayuso also visited the Advanced Command Post set up in Cenicientos, where she conveyed the regional government's support for a swift recovery to those affected. “We will be alongside them,” the president affirmed, highlighting the work of the personnel from the INFOMA 2026 Plan, which is also deployed in Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León.
The fire, which originated in the Toledo town of Almorox, has prompted a large mobilization of aerial and ground resources. The flames have affected a wide area of land, although authorities have not yet specified the exact number of hectares burned. So far, no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported.
The Community of Madrid has activated all available resources to address the emergency, including reinforcing firefighting efforts and assisting the evacuees. Residents in need can go to the Villa del Prado sports centre, where accommodation, food, and medical care are provided.
Authorities recommend that the public remain calm and follow the instructions of emergency services. It is expected that in the coming hours, the possibility of evacuees returning to their homes will be assessed, provided that safety conditions allow it.
This fire adds to others that have affected several regions of Spain in recent days, in a context of high temperatures and drought that favours the spread of fire. The president has called for caution and reminded the importance of taking extreme precautions to avoid new incidents.
