The Town Hall of Colmenar Viejo and the Community of Madrid have confirmed that the construction of CEIPSO Las Adelfillas will begin in October 2026, with a budget of €11.8 million. The centre will have 840 places and 24 classrooms.
The future CEIPSO Las Adelfillas in Colmenar Viejo now has a start date. The works will commence next month in October, as confirmed on Monday by the mayor, Carlos Blázquez, and the councillor for Education, Lorena Colmenarejo, after meeting with the Education Minister of the Community of Madrid, Mercedes Zarzalejo.
A Centre with 840 Places and Classrooms for Secondary Education
The new school will be a CEIPSO, meaning it will provide both Early Childhood and Primary Education as well as the first two years of Secondary Education. It will feature 24 group classrooms, as well as multipurpose spaces, computer and music classrooms, a library, administrative areas, and sports facilities. In total, it will offer 840 new school places for the municipality.
The mayor, Carlos Blázquez, highlighted that Colmenar Viejo “has established itself as one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Spain and with one of the highest birth rates.” In his opinion, this reality “demands that the administrations respond with planning, investment, and quality public services.” The Las Adelfillas neighbourhood, he said, “symbolises that growth.”
More Investments: A Public Institute and a Concerted Centre
The meeting also served to advance other educational projects. The Community of Madrid will build a new public institute on a plot provided by the Town Hall next to the CEIP ‘Héroes del 2 de Mayo’. It will be executed in a single phase, with six classrooms per year, and will involve an investment of €13 million.
Additionally, the construction of a concerted centre is planned in the Cerca de la Tejera area, which will complete the educational offerings in the municipality. The Town Hall continues to promote infrastructure “so that families have the best resources and the children born today in Colmenar Viejo can grow, be educated, and develop their life projects here,” added Blázquez.
For the residents of Las Adelfillas and the rest of the municipality, the arrival of the CEIPSO represents relief in the face of the growing demand for school places. The centre will join a network of facilities aimed at addressing the rapid demographic growth in the northern area of the Community of Madrid. The works on the CEIPSO will last several months, and it is expected to be operational for the 2027-2028 academic year.
