The deputy director of Diario AS has analysed in El Larguero the stagnation of Vinicius Júnior's renewal, advising him to understand the club's hierarchical roles.
Vinicius Júnior's renewal with Real Madrid remains unresolved. The Brazilian, who requested to match Kylian Mbappé's salary, has faced the club's outright refusal. Tomás Roncero, deputy director of Diario AS, has been emphatic in his analysis on El Larguero: the franchise player of Real Madrid is Mbappé and Vinicius must accept this.
The negotiations, stalled for months
According to Roncero, the last meeting between the club and Vinicius's camp took place about eight or nine months ago. In that meeting, the Brazilian demanded to earn the same as Mbappé, a request that Real Madrid flatly rejected. Since then, there have been no new contacts, although both parties claim that their intention is to continue together.
“The club says that there will probably be no problem, because their intention is to renew. If you talk to Vini's people, they will tell you that his only wish is to stay at Madrid, leaving is not on his mind. But curiously, there has been no meeting for 8 or 9 months,” Roncero explained.
The hierarchy of Real Madrid
For the journalist, the club's stance is understandable. “One must understand the hierarchical roles in a club and it is evident that the franchise player of Real Madrid is Mbappé. He is the top scorer in World Cup history, Golden Boot of the World Cup, Golden Boot of the Champions League, top scorer in La Liga; his individual numbers protect him. And Vini has not been as outstanding, he must understand that he cannot earn the same,” he argued.
Roncero hopes that the Brazilian will lower his financial demands. “I want to believe that Vinicius will reduce his financial expectations, which would also be reasonable,” he stated.
The signing of Diomande, a direct message
The imminent signing of Yan Diomande, a 19-year-old winger for whom Real Madrid will spend over 120 million euros, is interpreted as a warning to Vinicius. Roncero sees it as a cover manoeuvre. “The Diomande situation is a clear message that there is a possible scenario where Vinicius does not continue. Otherwise, there would not be such urgency for a 120 million euro outlay for a 19-year-old player. Such a strong bet only makes sense if you are also covering your back,” he asserted.
The journalist outlines a possible scenario: “Look, if Vini does not want to renew, next year we all coexist, the best attack in football history; and if he has not renewed, Vinicius would leave and Diomande would be a starter, already adapted to Real Madrid and more mature.”
The option to leave for free in 2027
If no agreement is reached, Vinicius could negotiate with other clubs as a free agent starting January 1, 2027. Roncero asserts that Real Madrid wants to avoid that situation, but the signing of Diomande shows that the club is already preparing for a possible farewell.
“Madrid wants to avoid that scenario,” Roncero clarified, although he acknowledged that the Diomande operation could be aimed at a future transfer that allows for more income from the Brazilian.
Roncero's advice to Vinicius
The journalist sent a direct message to the player: “If I could talk to Vini, I would tell him that Madrid is a paradise. If your agents have tried to convince you that you need to leave for more money, it’s absurd; you are very young. When you reach my age, you will say 'how foolish I was'.”
The white fans, meanwhile, await a resolution that keeps the Brazilian at the club, although the club's message seems clear: Mbappé is the star and Vinicius must accept a secondary role in the salary hierarchy.
