Real Madrid has halted Real Betis' attempt to secure the services of Gonzalo García, a 22-year-old forward from the white academy. According to reports, the green-and-white team submitted a loan offer until the end of the 2026-27 season, but the Madrid entity only considers a transfer and intends to retain 50% of the player's rights for future sales.
The operation, which seemed advanced in recent days, has considerably cooled down. Betis, looking to strengthen their attack following the departures of Cédric Bakambu and Chimy Ávila, contacted both the player's camp and Real Madrid to understand his situation. However, the chosen formula did not convince either party.
Gonzalo García, who had already caught the attention of Betis' technical secretary months ago, showcased his best form during the recent Club World Cup, where he scored four goals in six matches. This performance placed him on Betis' radar, which also coincided with Real Madrid in negotiations for Dani Ceballos and Fran García, the latter already incorporated into Manuel Pellegrini's team.
The forward himself is also not keen on the loan. Gonzalo García understands that if the time comes to leave Real Madrid, he prefers to do so permanently towards a project where he has an important role and continuity from day one. A temporary move for just one season does not guarantee him that stability.
“The player prefers a definitive transfer to have a clear role and continuity,” sources close to the footballer indicate.
Real Madrid, for its part, maintains a firm stance. The white club does not want to part with its academy player at any cost and demands to keep half of his rights in the event of a transfer. This condition, combined with Betis' refusal to make an immediate payment, has stalled the negotiations.
Betis, which will compete in the Champions League again this season, continues to seek solutions for its offensive line. With Cucho Hernández still on holiday after playing in the World Cup with Colombia, Gonzalo Petit is currently the only available forward for Pellegrini in pre-season. The sporting management continues to scour the market for a new attacker, although the path for Gonzalo García seems to have significantly cooled.
For Real Madrid, the decision means keeping a forward with potential in their squad, albeit without guarantees of minutes in the first team. The next winter transfer window could reopen the option, provided the conditions align with the white club's demands.
