The Town Hall of Cercedilla has coordinated with the Civil Guard and Local Police a special device for the summer, when the municipality goes from 7,000 to over 20,000 inhabitants. There will be an increase in agents and measures against fires.
The municipality of Cercedilla is preparing for a summer in which its population triples, rising from the usual 7,000 residents to more than 20,000 people, including tourists and second-home owners. To ensure safety, the Town Hall held a Local Security Board on July 10, where an increase in Civil Guard personnel and coordination with the Local Police and Civil Protection was approved.
More agents and fire prevention measures
The Deputy Delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, co-chaired the meeting with the mayor, David José Martín Molpeceres. Representatives from the Community of Madrid, the Civil Guard, the Local Police, and Civil Protection also participated in the meeting. The main agreement was to reinforce the Civil Guard, which also plans to incorporate new agents to the local station throughout the summer.
The population increase brings about more traffic, mobility difficulties, and greater environmental pressure on the natural surroundings of Las Dehesas. Therefore, specific measures have been designed to minimize the impact and ensure the safety of both residents and summer visitors. The prevention of forest fires has been another key point, especially in an area of high ecological value like the Guadarrama mountains.
Device for the solar eclipse and patron saint festivities
The Board also addressed the operational challenges posed by the solar eclipse expected in August, a phenomenon that could attract numerous visitors to the area. The foundations for the device for the Patron Saint Festivities in September were established, with the final plan to be outlined in a specific Local Security Board.
For the residents of Cercedilla, these measures mean greater peace of mind during the months of highest influx. The reinforcement of the Civil Guard and coordination between bodies will allow for a quicker response to any incidents, from traffic accidents to environmental emergencies. Additionally, the municipality's incorporation into the VioGén system since April enhances protection for victims of gender violence, a commitment that the Deputy Delegate highlighted at the end of the meeting.
A plan to enjoy summer safely
The mayor, David José Martín Molpeceres, emphasized the importance of these measures so that both residents and visitors can enjoy summer in Cercedilla with maximum guarantees. “Safety is a priority, and with this reinforcement of personnel and coordination between administrations, we are prepared to face the population increase,” he declared. The measures will be operational throughout the summer period, with special attention to weekends and holidays.
Residents can consult emergency phone numbers and safety recommendations on the Town Hall's website. Additionally, it is advised to exercise extreme caution in forest areas and to respect fire prevention regulations. With this plan, Cercedilla demonstrates that a massive summer does not have to mean chaos.
